Conservative Government 2010
another political thread (moan).. but it looks clamped down that there will be a Tory Government installed next spring... does anyone see how, in anyway the Tories will not win with a large majority in Parliment?
would the replacement of Gordon Brown as Labour leader make any difference to the present Governments chances?.. and could the Lib-Dems gain enough seats to cause a hung Parliment? just asking because at this time Labour chances are zero! Oh no I've got to add a poll and it won't show who voted whatever option |
Re: Conservative Government 2010
Good Question, and i'm not sure of the answer!! The problem is now, rightly or wrongly, everyone associates everything thats going wrong in the world and britain today, as being at least in part down to the labour government, and therefore as its figurehead...Gordon Brown. The two big problems labour have is that Brown is not a born leader, he's not a spokesman, he cant communicate with the general public, so whatever his qualities are...they arn't hitting home with the public. So basically he should go!!
Which leads to the second problem....there really is no one who stands out behind him as being an out and out leader of the party, who would command respect of public and party loyalists. Yes there are one or two obvious candidates who could take over, but none who really would engage both with the party and the public, and provide a more dynamic and charismatic leadership which is needed at this time. Plus as ive touched on in another thread, at the moment the labour leadership is very much a poisoned chalice, they expect to lose the election, and then have a leadership contest afterwards, so they would all rather keep their powder dry at the moment, wait for the enivitable to happen, and mount a challenge after an election when they have nothing to lose...yes its a cowards way out...but then again..we are talking politics here!! I must admit i watched the tory conference, and thought this is the weakest shadow cabinet ive seen in living memory.....yet they are still stonking favourites to hammer labour....which really says it all doesn't it! If Alan Johnson becomes Labour leader I'd jump for joy. If not, it's option 4.

I want to vote UKIP - if we don't have a candidate I will deliberately spoil my ballot paper, because neither are fit to govern

Torries could potentially ruin the northwest.

Re: Conservative Government 2010
The Conservatives are certainly not home and dry yet. A lot of work to be done between now and whenever there is an election. They have to achieve a large swing just to get a hung parliament as the current boundaries work in Labours favour. If they want to win the election I think they need the largest swing in post war Conservative victories.

If they want to win the election Andrew. Don't the Tories want to win the election? Jut one observation the Tories, would rather have a fourth Labour victory than an hung Parliament. They would never say it publicly of course. |

The Tories do not want any change in the voting system for obvious reasons. |

But maybe we are getting closer than we have ever been to changing the voting system. There is even talk about having a referendum on the same day as the General Election. |

Along with the parts of the UK with devolved powers. There hub will always be middle England and the South east. The number of MPs will be low in the devolved area's and therefore they have no mandate in my view in those areas at all. As for ruining the Northwest well that is a certainty along with most of what the consider the dark satanic north. Providing they get the home counties and the prosperous areas under their belt it will be sod the rest of the country. |
