Culturally the decade has been very disappointing. No new music. (Okay, sort of newish bands, but all very retro.) No new youth movements, unless you count tucking your trackie bottoms in your socks. Little new theatre. No new art movements. No literary revolutions. No riots, unless you count the biggest demonstration of the decade, the tweed and pearls pro-countryside/pro-hunting march. Even Top of the Pops ended. |
Re: The Noughties.

Re: The Noughties.
I will remember the noughties as the time I received a death threat on the boards of a carers charity by someone who turned out to be the owner of a hate site about which the charity did nothing. Apart from that is giving help and support to this person and banning me for speaking out about that.

The begining of the decade was still touched by the excitment of punk, but the mid-eighties were dire. I remember being in the supposed hippest club in London in 1985, and thinking my clubbing days were now over, because the music was rubbish. No way was I, could I, ever dance to Bryan Adams and Foreigner. Then in 1987 House music came over from a few black and gay clubs in Chicago, and it all kicked off again in the most fabulous fashion.
