accy vegas

i dont often wander down accy center buy had to go into town today and is it just me or is there less charity shop but more gambling establishments these days.I was walking down union street and on there alone i noticed an amusement arcade and 3 large betting shops then theres 2 amusment arcades near the old mcdonalds and a betting shop on broaway

theres probably more but it seems a tad overkill for a small town center unless accy is packed full with habitual gamblers lol

I commented on this a few weeks ago on the Arndale Clock thread. You must have all been too busy seeing what the odds were for the clock's return :D

I sort of half noticed that the shop right on the corner of Broadway and Union St, part of the Ladbrokes building had a sign in the window saying that it's going to be a Gamezone shop. Anybody notice it. At least it will add another variety of shop down there, there isn't another 2 games shop for at least 50 yards :)

Ironically I had an appointment this afternoon at Specsavers :D

In that case the nearest same shop type is about 100 yards away :)

The number of bookies in such a small area is ridiculous but tells its own story, "theres only one winner and that is the bookmaker". That is without counting the arcades but try and find a decent variety of shops for presents and you can't. As bad as the markets have gone in other local towns you can at least find a decent selection of shops for gifts. No wonder a lot of people don't shop in Accrington now.

Unless its time to buy a new phone. What do we have, 2 independants and the 4 of the main networks, or do we have all 5?

I can remember working in Glasgow many years ago, and the most profitable bookies was in the most run down part of the city with the largest number of people unemployed living there, so whats happening in Accy doesn't surprise me one bit

It's a well known fact Jaysay, that in a recession, we turn more to gambling as appears to be the only way to obtain any money. Bet the lottery is doing a blinder. The bookies are obviously taking advantage of this fact.
