New Winter of Discontent?

Okay, so maybe I am a bit biased, being in the airline game, but Flyglobespan going under, BA Cabin Crew and Unite doing their very best to shut BA down, the Heathrow Baggage handlers, Unite members again, going on strike, Cadbury's fighting Kraft off, our lads and lasses out in the gulf with not enough equipment, the banks swallowing money like no tomorrow, the NHS IT system being scraped as it cost too much, Liverpool having a really bad season, sorry had to get that in.
So what does our great Prime Minister do, swans off to Copenhagen and pretends to give a damm about the environment....

The words 'Crisis, what Crisis' comes to mind:banlama:

Is he moving farther to the right:confused:;) Things are looking up over here ... the economy seems to be back on track, and the Conservatives are up to their asses in scandals and their popularity is dropping (good news, eh, Jaysay:mosher:) ... winter is here at last, and the Maple Leafs aren't doing all that bad on the ice. I love this country.

Think maybe the Prime Minister is getting 'involved ' because B.A. is supposed to project a national image of the UK , and if B.A. looks bad overseas its seen as a poor reflection of the country . Most countries used to have a national airline which was either wholly (sp?) or partly owned by the Govt. (Air France, Lufthansa , Quantas etc) in a way these airlines projected an image of the home country ...
Lufthansa .....total German efficency
Air France .....a touch of decadence
PIA (Pakistan International Airline )......Please Inform Allah
Singapore and Cathay Pacific ......cabin crews of submisive 'oriental' females , totally at your service .

as a reflection of a country, its interesting to watch passengers come out into the 'meet and greet area' of an international airport , easy to pick out which counrty they are arriving from ....drunks wearing football shirts and track-suit bottoms (Chavs) and you know either B.A. or Virgin has landed.

Seem to remember that B.A. tried to rebrand the image when they changed the name from BOAC (most folks who travelled in those days thought it stood for "Better On A Camel") .

Re. the proposed strike .....seems this is a union busting ruse by the management to get rid of the senior/older cabin staff , folks who have given years and years of service .......should the NHS get shut of 55 yr old nurses becuse they have no university degree and promote 22 yr old graduates to 'ward sister' because they have a better education? .
Maybe the airlines should go the whole hog and get rid of all the pilots age 40 and over and give the jobs to the young more energetic 'gung ho' guys, myself I think I would prefer to fly with guys like Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger , the guy who managed to land his plane on the Hudson river .

I was always under the impression that the Unions and Labour were connected.
My point was the country is spiralling out of control downwards, Banks have been given lots of your money by the Government, £850,000,000,000.00 so far and things are not getting any better.

Cashy "thats another reason the country is goosed, knobs like you", thanks for putting me in my place.

Steeljack re young pilots, you are on to something there, the average age of a certain Irish loco pilot is well under 30. Just a thought.

You don't really want Mad Gord involved in the BA strike, do you? The whole shebang would be closed down in a month.

The kiss of death... :D

Very laissez-faire Cashman, are you sure you're a Socialist? :D
