anyone know how to get in touch with teh bin men over teh holidays

yet again hyndburns finest have done a half arsed job of collecting teh bins and neglected to empty some peoples yet done the rest of teh streets bins

you cant ring up because teh council offices are closed until january teh 4th but rest assured they will be around sharpish with threats of fines for binbags put outside

so if anyone knows the number of the bin waggon yard so we can ring up and bend their ear it would be appreciated

Mine was supposed to be emptied today, but I've never heard the wagon, so think they've missed us too.:(

Probably because they know tehy can do a half arsed job because theres no one to ring up and complain to

well luckily i just had a thought that i have a green wheelie bin as well so im gonna fill that rather than have to leave out extra binbags for other peoples filthy pets to rip apart for the next week until the council reopen

pitty anyone whos stuck without the extra green bin though especially at xmas time when you would expect more than any other time of the year for the council to get it right:rolleyes:

it is good to know though that when you do ring teh council 388111 they have provided a recorded message which covers all really important issues liek how to recycle xmas cards and where you can pay youir council tax bill while they are shut

Re: anyone know how to get in touch with teh bin men over teh holidays

No, just checked and my wheelie bin, or anyone elses around here, hasn't been emptied.

Rather makes a mockery of the details regarding collections the council placed in the press, which clearly stated today's would be a normal collection.

Perhaps it's because of the extreme weather...as it was a little misty first thing this morning.

nah just laziness they emptied most of the bins on my street i bet they get to finish early either because its xmas period or simply because theres no one to check on them so they do a rush job and either miss the odd bin or skip entire streets. We live in the same vacinity and have the same pickup day yet they managed to do bins near me yet skipped your street

seems somone was in a rush rather than couldnt get to us but i agree that slight mist could prove difficult for a big heavy bin waggon to navigate lol

You need a calendar.

A calendar with all the names and addresses of your councillors on it.

Perhaps there's the address of an emergency tip up the New Lane area, over the holiday period.

:D

Miserable moaners the lot of you, my bin hasn't been emptied in ages, but that's because I'm never up in time!

Quite right they deserve time off, but then again we were informed by the council that they'd be working normally today, no mention off any holiday.

If you do take advantage of the emergenct tip, please don't forget to recycle.

Normal household waste in the empty wheelie bin, everything to be recycled to go through the letter box.

totaly different department and i bet those working extra are getting paid very well for working extra shifts infact you wouldnt realise they had even worked half a shift yet alone double shifts with teh poor amount of areas that actually got a dose of grit when it was needed

also if you take a job that sates you work over xmas then you do it just like teh police and other services have to.

yes i am a miserable ****** lol but seen as they can fine you £1000 for littering if you put rubbish out early or because your bin is full you cant really blame people for expecting rubbish to be collected when they say it will be:)

The service we get from our council is shocking. It always has been.
With a view to the issue of Christmas day off. Well I worked Christmas day and ended up spending it and Boxing day in a hotel in Milan due to the aircraft breaking down. I did not get any extra money for it and don't expect any either. Why should they or anyone else be different

katex 29-12-2009 13:47

Re: anyone know how to get in touch with teh bin men over teh holidays

Well, I think you are all really mean ... was obvious they have had problems due to the weather conditions. Didn't collect my domestic waste the Wednesday before Christmas. Next door neighbour had put some of theirs in my bin ('cause I had said previously they could .. just unfortunate didn't collect this day) I recycled some into my brothers (his had been collected, even though same estate) .. so that's what I call a good bit of re-cycling.

Come on, where's your British spirit, all pulling together in times of trouble :D

Think I will set up a home for abused bin collectors.

The week before they were actually running between houses to keep up with the collection ... never been let down before either.:p

Perhaps because they are labourer's?

I'm sure your job has a touch of stress now & then but let's be honest the money you get as a flying coach driver, (no doubt with ex's), will more than compensate for your inconvenience.
The bin men always get it in the neck, not because they are lazy or can't be bothered, but their bosses can't organise the obvious.

you see less the problem is people of your age and mine remember when a bin mans job was hard graft but them days are long gone and its now quite a cushy number

long gone are the days when they had to remove bin hole covers , hump up two full steel dustbins onto tehir backs and heave them into teh back of a binwaggon, these days everthing is tucked nicely into a plastic container with wheels on the bottom and a hydrolic lift that lifts these bins and even tips teh contents into teh back of a waggon for them

i bet any retired binman would laugh their nuts off at a present day binman who said their job was hard

anyway i think anyone who dosnt get the service they expect has a right to moan because we pay a very high amount of council tax for these services and its not as though we have any choice in teh matter we cant with hold payment if teh job isnt done properly or we get sent to jail or have bailifs unleshed on us

I'm sorry, they can't blame the weather, there's been no more snow since before Christmas.

My wheelie bin's been out since Sunday night, and still hasn't been emptied. I've just been out to bring it back in, since mine was only a third full, but someone has filled it to the top with their extra Christmas rubbish. So I've had to leave it out.

So it looks like I'm going to have four weeks between collections, and a wheelie bin that's already filled to over flowing.

The refuge people can have as long off as they like, as long as residents are informed, and we were informed that it was a normal collection day on Monday.

For the next few weeks I think I'll have to do a Great Escape, and fill my trousers with rubbish, and release a little bit with each step.

Monday.

The bins are to be out by 7pm, but I had to put mine out late Sunday night in case I wasn't fit enough first thing Monday morning.

Normally they are collected by the wagon at about 2pm on the Monday afternoon.

The bumph have got says recyclable and none recyclable materials on that day.

They don't tend to leave people without a bin collection for three weeks.

Re: anyone know how to get in touch with teh bin men over teh holidays

Cashy, if you had read your calendar correctly, they were making an earlier domestic rubbish collection on your road on Saturday, 19th December.
The recycling was December 18th. Next one for domestic rubbish is, as you said 8th January. Ok .. nearly 3 weeks for domestic rubbish . you drew the short straw. Re-cycling collection for you is Jan. 2nd.

Anyway, don't forget the Christmas tree collections :

http://www.hyndburnbc.gov.uk/downloa...use_Ad_web.pdf

This is interesting too :

'We will help you to manage
your household waste by removing up to a further two sacks of non-recyclable
waste on your first collection day of the New Year only.'

It is weekly in a way TD .. just different type rubbish fortnightly.

I really don't think that HBC will be looking at all rubbish collections weekly .. anyway, I think this works for now .. all dependent on what type of equipment we have at the tips which costs money, which, in turn, puts up your council tax. :)

I think it's unlikely here in Hyndburn. A couple of Local Authority's in Lancashire have gone back to a weekly collection. But the majority are on fortnightly collections.

The whole emphasis now is on recycling.

I don't recall accusing you of being overpaid and please, I don't think there is a need for you to defend your job, I just find this thread emphasises the fact that the bin men obviously do a very important job.

Otherwise there wouldn't be such an outcry when suddenly they don't turn up, I do however wonder how most of us would cope if we had to follow instructions from above that obviously haven't been thought through otherwise, there would not be a need to discuss this chaos.

P.S. Seasons greeting to you too!:)

Can't complain. Wheelie bin should have got emptied last Thursday, but the state of the backs i didn't really expect them to be emptied. Weren't disapointed cause they never got emptied. Whilst in bed monday i heard the bin waggon so quickly put bin back out. Recycling was today, and it all got collected within the last half hour.

Up until this little mix up, now resolved, I too am very happy with the service.

We do still have a weekly collection service, one week for recycling, the next for everything else.

As for the moaners who say the new service attracts vermin...rubbish!

There is much less food waste on the streets since wheelie bins were introduced. I've never seen a dog open one, which many did with the old bins, and black sacks, scattering the rubbish everywhere.

cant lift a wheelie bin if its lid is slightly open because of health and safety

infact a lot of what bin men used to do cant be done under health and safety these days inclusing picking up after themselves
