Irish MP stands down

MP Iris Robinson stands down due to bouts of depression - Times Online

The wife of Ireland's first minister has stood down as an MP stating mental problems as the reason, with her thoughts on Gays, its hardly surprising, idiot:(

Yes, it must be a great mental strain for her and hubby to claim all those expenses.

Incidentally, Jaysay, I though your lot were pretty strong on homosexuality?

All for it, but I do believe it hasn't been made a compulsory factor for becoming a member of the Tory Party...

Yet.

True, but I was thinking more of Jaysay's leftfooter tendencies. They're pretty hot on condemning it, aren't they?

Oh you had me wearing my RC hat not my Tory one, there again Wyn, like in politics I don't always agree with policy, I'm a believer in live and let live, as far as I'm concerned People don't choose their sexuality, nobody decides to be gay its how they're born, so way condemn them. I also have strong opinions about contraception too, the Catholic church don't pay for the upkeep of children, and I've never have made much store on a bloke making the rules who doesn't play the game

Fair enough, Jaysay. I must say, quite a lot of leftfooters seem to have an admirable tendency to pick and choose the parts of their church's doctrine to suit their convenience. Mrs H certainly does! ;)

No I don't pick and chose Wyn, its just that if the Church, and I don't just mean the rednecks, want to keep going and play a part in peoples lives then they have to moderate their thinking and change with the times, its no use living in the 19th century, churches have to modernise or they go under, none more so that the catholic church

Are you sure, Jaysay? The way I understand it, the RC church regards homosexuality as unnatural and sinful and condemns all forms of artificial birth control. So, it seems to me that you are picking and choosing. I would imagine lots of other Catholics do it too, which just goes to show what a load of baloney organised religion is.

The catholic church is changing slowly Wyn, it certainly isn't as dogmatic as when I was lad, but as I've said before, nobody will make me accept what I feel to be wrong either in religion or politics, and you never change anything from outside the tent looking in. I could back the Church if homosexuality was something people chose to be, but when its inborn I feel its wrong, the saying there but for the grace of God springs to mind. As for contraception, in this day and age people should be allowed to chose the size of their family and not just leave things to chance at the behest of the Church

* (Please make note, this is a defence of a Conservative activist.)

You certainly can't accuse Jaysay of ever being homophobic, even if the church he belongs to is. On may occasions he's posted enlightened and balanced views on the subject.

As for picking and choosing what parts of a church's doctrine that suits you, you can't really blame the followers of a religion for doing that, when even a percentage of the church leaders struggle to follow all the rules, and think that 'suffer the little children' is an excuse for abuse.
