Accrington Police Station

just reading this ..

Police plan new £2.25m Accrington station (From Lancashire Telegraph)

talking about a new police station for accrington .. and shutting the old one as its no longer fit for purpose ...

but where would a new police station go ...

it would have to have security and enough room at the back of the station to house all the cars and vans .. easy enough for the public to get too and enough parking at the front for publics cars .. plus it will have to be in a central position - easy to get round town for when their blue lights are flashing ...

secondly where does this leave the magistrates court ..

I wouldn't be suprised to see Tesco pay for it on land next to them so they can have priority over all other retailers for dealing with shoplifters

They should have taken over the fire station and kept the police and courts on one site

It's interesting isn't it Shill ? Not talking about a new build though .. something that is already available. Should run some sort of betting thingy to see where they are thinking of ... only building I can think of is the Inland Revenue building due to close. They admire the new Waterfoot one, but have we got something like this ?

Anyone else any ideas ?

ill be happy if they threw in a few extra coppers and opened 24 hours a day we wouldnt need a bigger station if judges got a set of balls and slung criminals in prison and kept them off the streets

they did the same in Blackburn Jen, they'll probably build a new one and leave the courts where they are

That proposal of utilising the Fire Station was turned down. The Fire Station has seen a lot of damage over the years to subsidence, which also affected the houses in Grange Lane, tons of concrete had to injected under those houses to stabalise the foundations.
Part of the boundry wall in Grange Lane also had to be rebuilt.

But where could they build a new cop shop in a centralise location in Acc. There was all that land off Nuttall St, in the Lincoln St area where a new Fire Station was first proposed, till some do gooders blocked it.

Better still turf all the idiots out of the Clown, "oops" Town Hall, and use that. There are already cells under there

Re: Accrington Police Station

Is the question "A new Accrington police station" or is it "A new Hyndburn Polce station". If it is the former, then I can think of various brownfield sites around the perifery of Accy town centre; if it is the latter, then I suspect Lanashire's Finest will be looking at somewhere around Church, which is roughly the geographical centre of Hyndburn and already the home to the sports centre and fire station.
