That being the case then Marg, I assume you don't have much truck with the house of Lords ? maybe not quite so full as it once was but there are still quite a few in place through Hereditary links.

Also should we do away with the Monarchy we would be the poorer for it I think. I must admit that they don't hold me in thrall, but they are the essence of Britain & what we are, how many people come here just to see our Castles & Royalty ? without them we would be a poor America !

I only intentionally give money to charities that are based in Britain and help with problems within our own land. Its not an infallable way of keeping money out of the hands of corrupt people, but does increase your chances of being able to see, and get a feel for how your donation is helping your intended receipients.

Best Regards - Taggy

Marg is a rampant commy; we all know that. Her ideal scenario is that Britain becomes a socialist paradise, such like Cuba or North Korea, where the family hereditary principle does not apply.

How do you justify your connection between Royalist and Mysoginist?

I'm totally with you on this one Taggy, I can remember many years ago finding out that of the money given to Oxfam, only approx 19 pence in every pound goes the the intended destination the rest is snapped up in salaries and executive cars, this latest disclosure only strengthens my resolve:(

I used to give regularly to three charities until I found out much the same thing. Salaries I don't mind as people cannot be expected to work for nothing but excessive salaries of over £100k and company cars pushed my sympathy a bit far. Two of the three also started phoning me regularly asking if I could give more which is when I stopped altogether.

It doesn't help that a new charity is being formed every week and the respectable organisations are being tarnished by those out to make money from the sympathy of the general public.

Cancer Research is the only box I have no qualms about dropping my coins into these days. Please don't spoil it for them by telling me that they're squandering it all as well....

I agree Ken I make a monthly donation to The Christy, and support Asthma UK and the Osteoporosis society plus a few local charities, and I even have reservations about Asthma UK and Osteoporosis Society, because of costs

Bob Geldof rages at BBC over claim Live Aid millions were used to buy arms - Times Online
Looks like Sir Bob is none to happy;)

It could just be a comment from a disgruntled ex-General that has been exacerbated by media spin but, as the old saying goes, there's no smoke without fire.

I feel rather sorry for Bob Geldof in all this. He doesn't come across as a man who would have any truck with weapons trader, to be honest.

We're reading a news report (not usually 100% accurate) about someone selling their book. We're making up the rest, helped by a badly worded report.

I've less than no time for Saint Geldof and his sanctimonious mate, but this article isn't really about them.

The report says the aid got diverted - this happens all the time and what generally happens is that warlords grab all the aid (in the form of food, etc) for their armies. Saves spending the money on weapons. Better still, if they have stolen enough of the food they can sell it to buy more weapons.

Whilst I don't allways agree with the BBC's left wing/kumbuya political slant ( the folks who produced the original report) , I think its fair to say that any news report they do is factualy accurate. If the original report had first appeared on Sky/Fox news (Murdoch owned) I would have been more suspicious of political shenanigans ;)

It's reported, on the B.B.C., that they are standing by their story, even though Geldof says he might sue them for inaccurate reporting.

We'll just have to wait and see if he does.
