What lurks beneath the floorboards

What is the weirdest animal, you have found in your house.Making this thread because last night back at my mums while they are redecorating, there is no carpet down in the living room, a five foot long snake came out from a hole in the floorboards.I rang the RSPCA, who after about an hour came round. They said because of the recession, they are finding alot of people cannot afford to keep their pets, and are releasing them.It just shocked me seeing a snake in my living room.

Geeeze - I wouldn't want to move back in.
Rich people like penthouse apartments - that could be one reason why.
I have a concrete floor and live one floor above ground level, yet I have had mice migrate from the flat below via the drain ducting.

It seems we have to tolerate the stupidity of our neighbours - but snakes!!!!!
I admire you apparant calm - how do you know it is the only one down there?

We dont know if there is anymore but the RSPCA lady said it would be unusual if there is more than one.It gave me one almighty shock tho, we found out it is a garter snake common in north america.

Garter Snake Pie is a very popular dish in some southern US states. I think the recipe involves garlic, potatoes, tomatoes, beans and rice. Instead of calling the RSPCA lady you should have killed it and ate it; it would have made a nice tuesday evening meal.

Marg, Marg, please look again, I refer to the snake being "far to male" as in its aspect & not in its gender. For what was it that tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden ? a Snake in all its seething maleness & did not a mighty Serpent guard Mount Parnassus the home of the Muses?

Then on a general note, if there are no male Snakes how does the species maintain itself ?
