Will it make any difference
North West anti-terrorism hotline launched (From Lancashire Telegraph)
Will this make any difference or will it just escalate tension between the ethnic minorities. Already the Lancashire Council of Mosques has spoke out against it saying it will drive a wedge between communities, whats your take on the matter |
Re: Will it make any difference
It is a good idea and I don't see where it will cause a rise in tension. Surely we all need to help in this effort to avoid future terrorist attacks.

Re: Will it make any difference
Difficult one to call, that. The police can't be everywhere so having a specialist hotline may help to root out more illegal activity.
The Council of Mosques has jumped straight on the defensive without Muslims being referred to at all, which in itself suggests that they know they need to get their own house in order. On the other hand, this smacks of scaremongering again. I am not at all convinced that Great Britain is under constant high-risk threat from Islamic suicide bombers but schemes like this are (in my opinion) more likely to make it happen. Plus, how much is this costing us? |

Plus, how much is this costing us? Calls from most land lines will be free, some mobile operators may charge for the service. |

Re: Will it make any difference
I wonder if this may have 'owt to do with the case being currently heard involving those two characters from Blackburn who were discharging firearms in their backyard and undertaking 'military training' in Corporation Park? A confidential phoneline - such as the one whose number used to be plastered all over the place in Northern Ireland, and proved an invaluable weapon in the fight against sectarian terrorism - would seem to be a good idea.

Re: Will it make any difference
To be honest I really don't see it bringing any advantage at all, how many times have they set up "Hotlines" for immediate response across the spectrum of criminality ? Vandals, Car thieves, Gangs of yobs, blah, blah, blah ad nausea & what has been the net gain ?
All people want is proper Coppers on the street, sensible ones at that who aren't afraid to use some common sense & not just follow rules & regs to meet quotas. As has been expressed on here on various threads, there is it appears very little faith for the Police representation as it stands, so I see this being another case of disillusionment to the general public. I mean if they can't attend to a group of drunken gobby & offensive kids, how do they intend to deal with an organised, armed & explosive carrying Terrorist cell ? No, more empty promises I fear. |
Re: Will it make any difference
caller - iv seen a suspicious fellow and i think hes a terrorist
operator - can you desribe him caller - brown chap, black hair , funny little hat and wearing pajamas operator- ok Mr Griffin this is the 1000th time you have called this week can you please give it a rest edit: this idea is about as stupid as teh idea of putting microphones in lamposts because we all know terrorists choose to discuss terror plots in open spaces under a lampost.Terrorists dont tend to be open about what they are planning it kinda takes away the element of surprise so if anyone has this sort of information they are either involved or in a position where they shoudl ring teh police if they have any sense of right or wrong ,there is crime stoppers for anonnymous tip offs this line isnt needed its just a publicity reassurance stunt |

At least 80% of the guff that comes out of the Government in the UK is to cause fear & panic amongst the populace so they can add more laws & bills, people reporting their neighbours & people on the street(shades of Russia & Eastern Europe it seems) under the guise of security, but in reality it is control they are looking for, no where else in the Western World are the citizens under so much surveillance. I think these points have been raised before (Deja vu). |

Re: Will it make any difference
I find it strange that the Police and Security Services want the public to do their job for them.Strange but not surprising.
It doesn't take a genius to know what is going on,on the streets. It's plain to see.:mosher: It's time to bring back the local Mr Plod :stop: |
