Rule change

There has been a rule change in Scrabble, you can now use names such as products of real names. I know there are quite a few people play scrabble on here is this a rule change you welcome or not:confused:

It would be interesting playing scrabble against you, I bet you'd still blame the keyboard though.;)

I think it isn't a good change.

Should only be words found in the dictionary, not trying to play QLKZX, and trying to convince your opponent that it's a brand of Polish dog food.

I don't really play Scrabble, but seems a bit silly!

I thought it was just that lots of products use recognized words to describe the goods.:confused:

Against this one, I'm afraid.

It was much the same when characters and brands started appearing in the Oxford English Dictionary, just didn't seem quite right. 'Dalek' for instance, which is actually a Serbo-Croat word meaning 'distant thing' and nothing to do with alien war machines at all.

Heaven only knows what 'Cillit Bang' translates as.

Re: Rule change

I've worked out why the rule has been changed.

More & more people have been buying the game & playing it on the computer, no doubt Hasbro (yes even that word is now legal), have got to the end of their sales so what better? Change the rules and straight away millions of copies now out of date and need replacing.

What a darned, (legal), good sales department that company has, they will make millions.

Now if we can just add another row in chess, how much would that be worth?

I play a lot of scrabble and I don't think it's a good idea. It should only be 'real words' because otherwise where would you draw the line - you can't possibly put all brand names in, that would make it ridiculous.
