It should never be more lucrative to live off benefits than to find a job.
This guy had a job and gave it up to sponge off the working man.....his wife has never worked. |

Quite agree. Social benefits should be there to support those in need. It should not be a choice. Working for a living, or living off the state. The whole system is flawed. If everyone decided they'd be better off living off benefits, and no one paid into the pot that funds it, the system would collapse in days. People deciding to have large families, supported solely by the state, when there is free family planning available, is another matter that needs addressing. Sadly the days of us thinking we could only have things, whatever those things might be, when we'd saved enough to be able to afford them, are sadly long gone. |
Re: Somehing very wrong in this country
I note that Mr Moss has not commented on this one - perhaps he is too busy dealing with local matters:-)

Re: Somehing very wrong in this country
National Assistance (now Income Support) once had a payment limit known as
The Wage Stop. This was a very complex calculation that we civil servants dreaded having to do. The basis of it was the wage of a local council labourer. Applying it ensured that where a large number of children would cause the 'normal' calculation to provide for a high rate of payment of National Assistance, then this Wage Stop would limit it to what that family could receive if the 'breadwinner' was employed as a council labourer. After studies into 'child poverty', that rule was abolished in 1975 http://hansard.millbanksystems.com/c...wage-stop-rule |
Re: Somehing very wrong in this country
Before accusations start to fly "Albion" in this context is simply a referral to Great Britain, with admittedly the focus being on England. Why this topic ? Why the title ? I sit here hundreds of miles from the Land of my Birth & look on with a feeling of despair & depression at what has become of our verdant Isle.
It seems that a day does not go by when a further injustice is not inflicted on our Land & her people, to view the papers daily is getting harder as each day brings further indignities which leaves the reader uncomprehending & dismayed at our lack of "control". The above two paragraphs are part of a thread I wrote way, way back in the mists of time entitled "The passing of Albion" ( Saturday 27th March 2010). But it was mostly ignored which is fine, each to their own I suppose, but it was about this sort of depressing instance that encouraged me to pass comment. Sadly we reap what we sow ! |
Re: Somehing very wrong in this country
Unfortunately, Dave there is little we can do about it. Opinion polls indicate that the issue of the level of immigration into the UK is on a par with concern over the economy. What do our perfidious politicians say about that? Sweet F.A. if you read the political manifestos just published. There is a simple reason for that. At least 200 Constituencies now contain sufficient numbers of recent immigrants to determine the electoral swing on the 6th of May; therefore the mainstream parties do not want to say anything that may adversely affect their vote. Sickening, innit.

Re: Somehing very wrong in this country
what a great idea......but I fear it is doomed, because there will be those who would cry 'racism' if this was carried out.

No, I agree......there is no racism at all, but that won't stop those who fear they may be targetted from using the racism card......it seems to me that what Tealeaf says is a true reflection......there is no political will to do anything because these people(the new-comers will vote for the government) or am I just being cynical here?
Personally, I feel that much of the immigration that took place, was to ensure that New labour got their votes and stayed in power....again, maybe I am being cynical. |

By the way, I was in the local swimming pool last week when I thought I saw the familiar face of one of the local MP's step into the shallow end. I swam down there, ramming speed, and gave the b*st*rd a good side kick. Unfortunately, it was not Mr George Galloway, but some French bloke - so it didn't really matter, I suppose. |

There's definitely something very wrong when an alcoholic, smackhead convict gets 4.7m for falling out of bed.
Brain-damaged prisoner wins £4.7m compensation package to cover his rent - Telegraph OK there may have been 'breaches of duty of care' by the prison service, but 4.7million. |

Oh deary deary me, once more our infallible crime fighting heroes once again rush to the well being of the greater British Public, due to apprehending a vicious knife wielding threat to our Nation !!! (Flag waving & Fanfares please)
Express.co.uk - Home of the Daily and Sunday Express | UK News :: Man with penknife in his car is handed a criminal record Now if only these defenders of justice had put as much effort into understanding (possibly reading about) the laws they are meant to uphold & implement, how much Police time & public money could've been saved ?? :( http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/CrimeJus...tion/DG_078569 Crime & Justice = Knife crime = Basic rules on knives = Point 5

Re: Somehing very wrong in this country
Here in France - you want to buy CS aerosols, OK. A Samurai Sword - yes there will be a shop in the town selling them. Throwing knives, catapults, shotguns, rifle, whatever you want as long as you are a French citizen.
So if it is OK in France, which is a member of the EU, why the restrictions in UK? |
