Hyndburn Herald.

Oh, dear.

I can't say I saw it, as I found it so boring, the only time I looked at it, that it goes straight into the recycling sack.

Hyndburn publication slammed for offensive joke

'A COMMERCIAL publication has been criticised for publishing an offensive joke. The Hyndburn Herald, which features jokes alongside advertisements of local services, defended its decision to include a joke about immigrants dying in the back of a Tesco van'

The Hyndburn Who? Never heard of them, ;) perhaps they need to put a few adverts in a decent newspaper and get themselves noticed.

Re: Hyndburn Herald.

Their office is just round the corner from me, in Great Harwood. The paper must be getting out there, because I used to advertise with them and have had at least two Accywebbers through the door as a result.

It's mostly adverts, quite a lot of funny stuff trawled from the internet, and a few bits of editorial. I like it, but I can see how something funny has arrived in Les's inbox and he's laughed, so it's been a candidate for the paper without fully thinking out the ramifications. He's got my sympathy - I do that sort of thing all the time.

It's not actually a bad little paper and there were usually a few entertaining titbits in it but we stopped getting it all of a sudden and I wandered in to the office one day to see why. Not all of Rishton gets it and they were at something of a loss to tell me how I'd ever had it in the first place. The same is true in other wards, where I believe it's a slightly different paper.

I did say that I'd write them an article about Rishton but I've been a bit pressed recently. I must get onto it for them, they should be supported really.

The Herald is delivered to 32,000 homes across Great Harwood, Oswaldtwistle, Rishton, Clayton-le-Moors, Stanhill, Church, Knuzden, Padiham and Burnley

Seems strange that they're don't cover the largest town in the borough?

What ever happened to free speech or is that a politically incorrect expression now. Its a sad state of affairs when you are told what you can and cant laugh at. why is every body running so scared of the minority. The expression of tail wagging the dog comes to mind.

What jokes people might verbally pass on to their friends, might get you into trouble, if you told them publicly, or published them.

Just common sense.

Bedfordshire Police’s rules regarding terrorists and dangerous criminals

If they’re non-Muslim -
• Consider the most opportune time of day to be able to arrest suspects with minimum resistance.
• Apply all necessary force to enter the premises and arrest suspects accordingly.

If they’re Muslim -
• Community leaders must be consulted before raids into Muslim houses.
• Officers must not search occupied bedrooms and bathrooms before dawn.
• Use of police dogs will be considered serious desecration of the premises.
• Cameras and camcorders should not be used, in case capturing women in inappropriate dress.
• If people are praying at home, officers should stand aside and not disrupt the prayer. They should be allowed the opportunity to finish.
• Officers should take their shoes off before raiding a Muslim house.
• The reasons for pre-dawn raids on Muslim houses needs to be clear and transparent.
• Officers must not touch holy books or religious artefacts without permission.
• Muslim prisoners should be allowed to take additional clothing to the station.

To be fair, it's paraphrased to make it sound more sensationalist (the actual guidelines are provided in a PDF link), but it still makes you wonder...
