Voting
Please, whatever you do, whoever you believe, should or should not be in power, VOTE tomorrow, even if you just go in and spoil your vote.
After all it is one of the only times you can make a difference. I've a good idea about which person/party I will be voting for, but to waste your vote by not even turning up is a shame. Turn up, make sure, even if you don't want to put an 'X' against anyone, ruin your vote, you will have spoken, don't leave it and then complain. :) |

Re: Voting
I voted by post - I think it's really important that everyone uses this platform to have their voice heard. I've even made my 16 year old son watch the debates and talk about what he thinks of it all, obviously too young this time, but after all he'll be at the polls next time around and I want to make sure he uses his vote and realises how important it is!

Re: Voting
i have to vote so that i have a right to complain if teh torys get in because i will bet my last penny a large amount of people wont vote yet will be the ones moaning if the torys get in at how they no longer get tax credits or how they cant get treated in hospital.
if you dont vote you have no right to compalin in my book |

I don't see the sense it that tbh... Personally i think that no matter who i do or do not vote for the country is in trouble so why should i bother? Is my one vote really going to make that big a difference? I think not... Also if i voted labour and the tories get in ill be unhappy but if i don't vote and the tories get in ill still be unhappy but in your opinion can't moan ofc ill moan and whether i vote or not means nowt imho...:( |

people who drag themselves to the polling station and participate after a hard days work , struggle down to the polling station with 3 kids in tow or push themselves there in a wheelchair or on crutches earn their right to moan ,many people are disillusioned by all the corruptness and lies polotitans tell but they take time to think about it and cast a vote as to who they think will do teh best job and if somone cant be arsed to do that then why shoudl anyone give a damn about what they think should they decide to have moan about the state the country is in and whos in charge? mind you we still live in a free country and it is a persons right not to vote but they shoudlnt complain unless they have tried to do somthing about it :D |

Well been n done the deed but they were 2 mins late in opening.:eek::eek: Something to do with councillors checking the boxes. But the councillors failed to appear. Must be too early for them to get out of bed. :p

The struggles those people went through will have been wasted if you as a woman can't drag your backside off the settee and down to the polling station. If you don't believe any of the people are of any use then make sure your vote is ruined, (easy enough just vote for two people), this will make sure it goes onto a different pile to the rest, that pile will be counted and if enough people do this rather than sit at home moaning that they, can't be bothered, the people that do gain the power will know there are some unsatisfied people out there. It is your right to vote or not, but how can you complain about the system or what is going on if you aren't prepared to do just this one little thing yourself? Right, I'm off to my polling station now to get a place in the queue, this year will be a busy one I'll be behind a load of ne'er do wells that have never voted before and will be asking the guy in charge how to spell 'X'. :) |

Re: Voting
After not sleeping for days, and days, which makes my condition worse, I finally slept.
Hurrah. Sadly, in this much needed slumber, I dreamt it was announced on television that Hyndburn had been taken by an Independent...which turned out to be Logan!!!! I will definitely be casting my votes today. :D |

While it is a good citizens duty to vote...and yes I know that some women gave their lives so that we could have this privilege, I do think that it has to be acknowledged that a large section of the electorate are feeling disconnected from politics. Whose fault is that do you think? You have the right to withdraw your labour if you feel that your employer is giving you a raw deal........and I think you should be able to decide to withold your vote.......especially when the current range of candidates for leadership are so poor and appear(to me, at any rate )to be lacking in backbone. I seriously considered not using my vote today. So what stopped me from exercising this right? My daughter did......so if you saw me being frog marched to the polling station on Barnes St......why didn't you come to my aid? It is a good job daughter couldn't come into my polling booth......or I would have been made to rub out all those funny faces. Who-ever gets in today is in for a very rocky ride....and that means that we'll also be in for a turbulent time too. |
Re: Voting
margaret if she'd gone into the polling booth with you the vote wouldnt have counted .. as its a secret ballot and no one is allowed to be in the polling booth with you
You're welcome to enter the polling station with a friend, says Connelly. But voting is a private matter so you must be alone when you go into the polling booth and mark a cross on the ballot paper. If you have any questions about the procedure, polling station staff will be happy to help. If on the other hand, you have a disability, or are unable to read the ballot, and cannot vote on your own, the presiding officer can help. A family member or friend could be permitted to accompany and assist. BBC News - What can you NOT do in a polling station? |
Re: Voting
I know jen....and pretty glad I was that she was not allowed to come in with me...though it would have been quicker...crosses are easier to do than faces...especially one with horns on:D
|
Re: Voting
by the way i got asked today where a polling station was ..this was while i was in haslingden today .. nothing new i hear you say .. thing was it was a candidate for the general election who asked me .... now if you dont know where your polling stations are in the area you are standing ... why are you standing in that area?

Re: Voting
Well, I timed my drugs, and have been to vote.
I've voted for the people who I think will best serve the constituency, and the ward, that I live in. I'm ignoring party politics, as I'm disilusioned with the lot of them. Especially after Brown showing his true feelings about those that have put him in the position he's in. He's so out of touch with reality it's sickening. I voted for the two people who are the most passionate about the area, and who understand, and have an in depth knowledge of the pros and cons we have. I voted for Graham Jones, and Peter Britcliffe. So all the doubting Thomases, who didn't believe I really am non-partisan, stick that it your pipe...and smoke it. :D |
Re: Voting
Right, off to the boozer now for my "float the vote" session. If I can remember where it is, I intend to wend my way to the polling station around 9.50 tonight. What happens then is anybody's guess... ;) :D
|
Re: Voting
Although it was 'rush hour', I suppose, the polling station was quite busy when I went.
It was heartening to see five young lads, excitedly casting their first votes. Be interesting to see the turn-out, after all the apathy and anger we earlier had re: the expenses scandal. |
Re: Voting
if anyone is planning on stopping up to see who wins .. the latest ive heard is that the result wont be declared in hyndburn till about 4.30/5.00am ... though that was from the conservative candidate ..

Re: Voting
There are apparently lots of seats where people who were queueing, and who were denied their right to vote, and there may be subsequent legal challenges in some constituencies.
In London, voting after work, you did always have to wait in a queue, but this was about seven o'clock. You'd have to be a bit daft to turn up at 9.55, and not realise you might have trouble. You'd think the polling stations being opened for 15 hours would be long enough for us all to vote. |
Re: Voting
agree entirely rindy, personally don't think they should be allowed to challenge, is no excuse to my mind.:(

Re: Voting
Justheard that in some places that there werent event any voting cards left. I think its disgraceful

Re: Voting

If it's down to bad management, rather than people just leaving it until the last minute, that needs investigating. There have been sit-ins in some areas, apparently, by people not able to vote. It all sounds like something you'd read about in the third world. |
Re: Voting
It does seem quite amazing, Running out of voting cards, doors being shut with people inside allowed to vote, (A lock in), doors not being shut and people voting ten minutes after time, even people entitled turned away because the area's polling register hadn't been up dated, an interesting few days are on the way, maybe we'll be going to vote again sooner than we thought?

Re: Voting
There is no excuse if you could not be bothered to turn up and vote until closing time. This is typical of a lot of people these days, believing that rules do not apply to them.
Just watching the BBC form a hotel at Paris Orly, (almost home), they are just discussing Gordon and will he hang on. I would not be surprised if he tries even though the majority of people in the country have decided they don't want him. |
Re: Voting
well congratulations to graham jones,a well deserved victory. on the national scale its what i expected.:( whats really amusing to me is the "Lib Dems" seem to now have less seats, despite "Pretty Boy", to me they shot themselves in the foot with a couple of policies, which showed me at least, they have no concept of the views of ordinary people. hopefully with this result all 3 leaders will fade away. fingers crossed.

whats even more amusing is the fact that though the Lib Dems have had n abysmal night, They have gained Burnley..............what have i always told ya about Dingles?:rofl38::rofl38::rofl38:
