I've just been watching the end of Oliver Twist, David Lean's 1948 version with Alec Guinness playing Fagin and Robert Newton taking the role of Bill Sykes. Oliver Reed played this part in the 1960's musical . It occurred to me while watching the film that, should there be another version made, Gordon Brown would make an excellent Bill Sykes as he has those dark, scowly looks and the temper to match. Seeing as he ain't going to be doing 'owt for the next few years, maybe we could see him pop on the silver screen.
