Anyone with any info on the old Dance hall The Ritz in Paradise Street,currently the site of the New Era Complex?

Just one small point, it was never in Paradise St, the entrance was in Cannon St.
The Ritz Cinema is now the site of Barnes Furrniture.

The ritz dance hall also was also a roller skating rink at one time Sid ashmead was the resident band and saturday night was the best night most of the band were employed at howard and bulloughs and the dancing was real then slow foxtrot and the waltz with many top dancers strutting there stuff there and only on certain nights were there a bar as a result there was never much trouble yes a pretty good night out

Thanks for the reply Keith,it may interest you to know that dancing still takes place at the New Era,Sequence dancing is on every Saturday night.So in one way the tradition continues albeit to recorded music!
