Sounds a good idea to me...have a quick Scotch on the rocks while you're waiting for a consultation. I like it! :D

Good....I assume they have the front windows in then.

If that building was not to be a pub, then this is the best thing to happen..certainly for Church Kirk.

Me too, mate. A magnificent pub that used to be a regular port of call on my little West Accy/Church "circuit" back in the day. A sad loss.

I spent many Happy hours in Queens. The log fire made it feel homely. Really miss that place. Cant rememember the fire in 60s though can you.

The Victorian tiles on that sweeping staircase were magnificient - spent many happy nights in there in the late '50s/early '60s. Last time I went in there there was an Asian landlord/barman and all the clientelle were asian - except me and i quickly decamped to the Thorn.

'Allo, 'Allo mon ami - some words have crept into my vocabulary - Kronenbourg 1664, vin & cidre. They do tend to corrupt one's pronunciation.

Still got 4 bottles of Thwaites for next month and a freezer full of Holland's products. Drink German beer anyway - much cheaper in Lidl. 0.47 cents for Stupido, 0.32 cents for 4.2% sensible beer. You can take tha lad away from Accrington but you cannot take Accrington away from the lad.

Eh? I wonder what year that was? I certainly don't remember any Asian landlord or barman...Maybe Barrie was hallucinating on some of his German beer.

That was in the late '50s/early '60s. Called in one time in the late '60s when on leave in Accrington and the tiles were still there and as it was lunch time i had only had a couple of halves (of local bitter), so not hallucinating then.

Had a re-think Cashy - I was stationed at West Drayton at the time so in all probability it was '72 -'75

'72-75 the Landlord was a chap who smoked a pipe and had a handlebar moustache..his surname was Fistwick (I think) and his son's first name was Roy. I had many a pint of Lion's finest Crystal in there..(burp).

I'm trying to think where Barrie may have got confused over Asian landlords..it was certainly not the Queens. Maybe the Church Commercial or the Antley? Definitly not the Queens, Stag, Guns, Welly, Bridge, Tanpits, or Thorn. Maybe the one up Market St?

cashman 23-06-2010 21:25

i was thinking maybe the little Thwaites house just before Church con club, cos next one was rosebud n that never had, think it was shut early 70s anyway? oak tree never had one either.
