imposta The new cafe on abbey street.

hello! i would just like to say what a delightful place ive just been to.

Have you seen the new cafe on abbey street called imposta?
Well i totally recommend it. ive just been in with my mum, sister, and sisters boyfriend. and it was really good.
It was a nice cute enviroment with classy touches, comfortable seating and the mostly friendliest staff!
The prices are affordable and the food WOW lets just say i loved it! :) The food was presented ever so nicely, and the wait was not long at all! Even though the cafe was pretty busy and the customers kept rolling in!
The menu isnt the biggest, but its quite simple, but it was nice that way, it suited the elegance of the cafe.

Deffiantly going to go in there again, and i really hope they stay in buisness. not like there going anywhere too soon.

Leave any comments if you have or would like to go to this cafe.

Ohhh by the way i had a tuna, redcabage, and swiss cheese sandwhich and i can honestly say ive never had a tuna sandwhich that tasted SOOO good + a coke :D

Thanksss x x x

Amazing!

I will give that a whirl. Usually go to Divine in Warner Street thats a nice clean place and good food. They make a really good hot chocolate with marshmallow.:)

Re: imposta The new cafe on abbey street.

I will call in now it has opened, we did quite a bit of work to the place, and I can tell you that the owners didnt cut corners on anything, everything we installed was quality stuff, nice to hear the service equals the efforts of all who worked hard to get the place opened, not least the owners.

Bottom of Avenue Parade, opposite Abbey Street Shopping shopping centre, on the right facing up towards the Coppice. The girlfriend and I normally go Over Coffee when in Accy but will give it a try, any money going towards an upper-market place in Accy can only improve the town, some good stuff coming about with Grants, Peel Park, Over Coffee and the places on Warner street, it's that side of the town that needs marketing, let Greggs and the Poundshops die.

It's across from the post office, can't remember what it used to be called but was a cafe before too.

I haven't been in but the lady in the shop next to me says it's really good.

The latter probably do more for the town's economy than the niche shops. The ideal situation is a mix of both.

Unless they offer some form of reward scheme for posting on a local forum I would have thought it's genuine. Clearly the OP doesn't work there as she is asking for a job elsewhere.

Besides if somebody new is going to promote their business would they have not put it in the jobs section ;):)

That was good of you.

Judging by the other comments, I'll give Over Coffee a miss next week, and check it out.

Always nice to hear of new independent businesses in the area....especially if they're as good as this sounds.

Called in to "Imposta" this morning, very impressed and Lynn, who knows about this sort of thing, thought it was great so I'm in good books as well, staff were very pleasant and they've gone to a great deal of trouble fitting it out, let's hope they do well

PS Talking to a friend in town later who says it was a tea shop before

Today we visited the Imposta Coffee House Abbey Street on recommendation from an earlier thread by SarahLouise. We certainly agree with her. I got a Latte and a breakfast toastie.my partner had Hot Chocolate with marshmallow and cream + a toasted currant t-cake (the latter served with a knob of butter in a tiny heart shaped bowl). The food and drink was excellent and served up very quickly. The staff were very friendly and polite. We will definitely visit there again.:):)

Ian

Your just too cynical it's a shame when as a new member my 15 year old daughter cant post a positive thread about a new local business without their having to be an ulterrior motive.(which there isn't)

There are plenty of examples of members reporting bad experiences with companies who are named on Accyweb but do we question if they have been posted by a competitor as a means of affecting their trade

To be fair Hedman, we do get quite a lot of these types of thread of new businesses promoting in a disguised way. It went through my mind originally seeing as it appeared to be an 'over' complimentary report.

I think your daughter dealt with this criticism admirably to be honest and she laughed at Ian's post assuring us that she had no interest, and subsequently led to some of our members enjoying a new eating venue.

I am now going to give her some karma for that..:)

Thank you I'm sure she will be grateful

Perhaps I come from a less cynical age when we took things at face value rather than having to have a such a cynical "whats in it for me attitude"

Oh to return to the good old days when honesty and integrity were the norm

I have to say, that influenced by this thread, Nicola and I took the opportunity to test out this establishment yesterday....by way of a celebratory coffee and cake session(Nicola had just been the 'Speaker' at the town hall, and it frayed her nerves just a little bit).

I have to say it is an oasis of charm(in a modern sort of way) in a town that is lacking in such areas.
I agree with all the very positive comments made. We enjoyed our coffee, and were served by a very handsome young man(always a bonus).
I am pretty sure that we will be visiting again.
Great stuff, and thanks to Sarah Louise for bringing it to our attention.

they said that they had been very busy yesterday, and I'm sure this publicity has helped....but the acid test is the quality and the service...and in my book both were excellent.

If it is of any interest to anyone, the shop concerned sold leather goods and tack up until the mid seventies. the lady who ran it, Mrs Sergeant, also had a house at the bottom of Avenue Parade where she used to give piano lessons, she also ran the Sunday School at the little chapel on Charter Street. I have very many happy memories of the time I spent under Mrs Sergeant's musical tuition; she was much nicer than that awfully snobby Bridges woman further up Avenue Parade.

Re: imposta The new cafe on abbey street.

It would appear that Cafe Wars have broken out in downtown Accy. However, never having visited any of these aforementioned establishments, could anyone advise if one is served by fully trained Baristas? One finds it so difficult to get a decent cup of Kopi Luwak (decaff) these days so I would be tempted to pop in to one of these places if someone could confirm in the affirmative that one's favourite coffee is not only available, but correctly served.

Margaret Pilkington 08-07-2010 19:31

Re: imposta The new cafe on abbey street.

I think you would be out of luck on that one Tealeaf.......I don't think the population of Accrington are ready for such sophisticated tastes......but you could phone ahead and give them the opportunity to provide you with your favourite brew. but I guess that you might have to tell them exactly how you want it served. I rather fancy there is a shortage of fully trained Baristas

Tealeaf 08-07-2010 19:35

I shall take your advice and do that next time I'm back in Accy, which should be in about a weeks time.

I like the place, and I enjoyed my little Saturday break there....and despite what Pigface says I didn't think it was overpriced......it was cheaper than, say Costa Coffee, or Starbucks.....and the personal service was prompt and efficient.

Re: imposta The new cafe on abbey street.

Went in today for the first time, for lunch.

Nice, restful decor. Good mix of bistro tables and chairs, and comfortable leather sofas and coffee tables.

We both had the All Day Breakfast toastie. Lovely wholegrain bread, good quality bacon, eggs, and sauce. Great latte, though large is massive.

As for cost. Cheaper than fish and chips and coffee, for our usual Tuesday lunch in Church St, and cheaper than where we ususually eat on Saturdays, at Over Coffee. Though there we do usually have a heartier meal.

Exceptionally good service.

I went out for a cigarette and Paul came over and introduced himself to my mum, with a friendly handshake. They chatted about business, and Accy Web's rave reviews were mentioned. He said in the six weeks they'd been opened there's the odd quiet day. Mum told him at our family bakery, after sixty six years there's still the odd quiet day, but carrying on as they are they'll do well.

Really enjoyable, and will definitely go back.

(Added bonus for those who like to smoke, whilst having coffee, there are six tables outside.)

Imposta coffee is the best thing to happen to Accy for a while. Divine, Lily Maes etc are setting the trend with food and drink in the town. Other shops... follow the quality PLEASE..

Managed to get in there today at long last. Had an all-day breakfast sarnie and a cappucchino - absolutely top-notch. This will now be my regular port of call on match days! :)

I called in this morn, just for a Coffee. Was nice i must say, really clean and welcoming, and all the staff were friendly and made a point of saying hello and asking how things were. I only had a large Cappuccino, but then it looked lonely on its own so just had a small Portugese Custard Tart to go with it! Very nice indeed. Will certainly be using again!

Best Regards - Taggy

littlepom tried to post on this thread last night - a message came up to say the post had to be checked by a moderator?????????????
I know that she considered it to be the best cafe she has been in in Accrington - far superior to the ones in the Market Hall and adjacent street. Is there something wrong with expressing an opinion?

When me and my mum were in town on Saturday we were approached by a young lady handing out leaflets to this place and were told that if we take it to the shop we would get a free cup of coffee.

We didnt have the time to go in though, and to be honest we had just had a cold drink at Costa Coffee!

I think that they are losing business with Costa opening.............

Re: imposta The new cafe on abbey street.

Have tried Imposta a few times lately and as for value for money, friendly service and cleanliness can't be beat IMHO. £2:95 For their scrumptious Granary Toasties (enough for two people to share), compared to £2:00 for one slice of cheese on toast in the downstairs cafes in the market hall!!! No competition in my book, plus the relaxing surroundings wins every time with me. It is a treat to visit:)

I won't use Costa not least because they are a big concern, think we should where we can back local folks. But have also heard negative reports about Costa not being behind out Troops:(. Whether these reports are true or not I know where I prefer to spend my money and Imposta wins hands down for me:)

I don't remember exactly when it was but Cashman recommended I tried Imposta. I have just been in again(don't recall reporting back the first few times) and have to say it is a great cafe and I am led to believe locally independently run. This is a cafe unique to accrington.. Costa doesn't come close!

Really enjoyed the breakfast toastie and the coffee is always great. Love it

Called in Imposta for the first time yesterday for coffee and bacon butties .

I enjoyed them and found the service excellent .

Before all these eating establishments were open in Accrington I remember going to a cafe on Blackburn Rd opposite the Railway pub , I think between Eagle St and Birch St . It was a well-known place for going for a meal in those days , but I can't for the life in me remember its name .

Was there also a Co-op restaurant ? I seem to recall going there after a funeral .

I booked my 1st wedding reception at the Coop restaurant in Warner St.(1961)
A methodist wedding - hence booze free venue.

Just 2 months before the big day they advised me that the venue had been double booked, and since the other booking was for a larger party, mine could not now be accommodated. I had booked it many months before so was very 'miffed'.

I managed to book the Swan Inn(now Grants) opposite the police station, and the methodist vicar(invited too) didn't seem to mind the venue. Cidona was available for the religious fanatics in my husband's family.

So the Co-op restaurant was in Warner St . I thought it was somewhere up that way .

Do you not mean the Hargreaves Arms , which is now Grants ?
