An experiment in social engineering

Lets put OAP's in prison and prisoners in nursing homes. This way the OAP's would have access to showers, hobbies and walks, free prescriptions, dental treatment and on site medical treatment, wheels chairs, gardens etc. and even spending money. They would have constant video monitoring so if they fell or needed help they would get it immediately.Their bedding would be washed at least twice a week and their clothes washed, ironed and returned to them.
Guards would check on them every 20 minutes to see if they were OK and bring their meals and snacks to their cells if needed. They would have free access to a library, medical centre, spiritual councelling, swimming pool,a good choice of free education, free legal aid.Free clothes, shoes, satellite TV,DVD,radio, phone calls.A board of directors to act on their complaints and the guards would have a strict code of conduct.
The prisoners would be totaly ignored, get cold food, lights off early, showers once a week, a tiny room and pay £500 pounds a week. Also they'd know they would never get out. Seems fair?

Perhaps I should 'e' mail it to Ken Clarke. After all, if prison doesn't work for prisoners, it might work better on OAP's.

Is there a petition that can be signed? I am up for that. OAP's get a really raw deal.

Actually a friend 'e' mailed it to me, he sends me lots of interesting things and it struck such a chord with me that I thought it worth passing on.Took me ages to key it in!Good detective work, flashy, how do you backtrack to sources as you did?
It obviously strikes a chord with other people as well!

It would appear that whatever the source, it is somewhere in the USA. What they don't have in the US are ASBO's and as the present government intends to abolish them, maybe they could do so with a flourish?

We all know that ASBO's come with holidays attached for the poor, deprived criminal underclass so maybe we should give every OAP an ASBO with the condition that a) they keep out of Accy every third saturday (that's when I'm there doing my shopping and b) they go on an all-expenses paid, two weeks adventure safari in Africa.

Everyone's a winner!

It is already world wide, as soon as you post on accyweb everything is read by google, yahoo, etc. and can be found in their pages if you care to look for them.
Doing a search for 'An experiment in social engineering', in google at the moment shows this thread as the fourth item on their first page about this topic.

If your mate emailed it to you why on earth did you re-type it rather than copy and paste it?

Also just to avoid this type of confusion about originality, mention at the end of your post that it was sent by a friend.
:)

Less, the reason I typed it in was I had to edit down to make it fit in the 'thread box'.Also I don't know how to cut and paste either(I'll read up your info).I never thought of mentioning the source ,just thought it interesting.Funnily enough, the only original bit of mine was the heading, which you say finds the originals on Google(now I know how Flashy did it!).
We visited an old relation of ours for several years in what was supposed to be one of the best care homes in Blackburn(aaa! the box opens up when you fill it) and I must say I would rather die young(well, not this young) and at home than in one of those places.

If the wandering posts I and Jambutty are known for are anything to go by, don't worry about size, it just doesn't matter.

Or we could go the other way round ...call it the "BIG Society" and let people look after the old for free.. if yer park is looking untidy then clean it up and walk away..make home help non existent but ask the neighbours to look out for the old folk a few doors away.. all these things have been done for free in this county for decades.. but Cameron and the Tories want to make it officail.!... cutting costs? this is more of the them and us stuff we had under Thatcher... cuts cuts cuts.. no matter the cost
