I get an uncomfortable feeling that some 'gloating' is showing itself here.

The act of gloating.
A feeling of great, often malicious, pleasure or self-satisfaction.

How has this man deserved that?

Because he's always using get out closes in the law, but failed to obey his own rules, I never have been a fan of the rich and famous using their money and influence to pay lawyers to find get-out closes in the law, especially motoring offences
