Re: For Less
There was a model railway exhibition at the Hyndburn Sports Centre a few weeks ago which was very impressive, even if the admission fees were a little expensive.
However, I was pointed back in the direction of the East Lancashire Railway and if money allows I will be treating The Bride to Christmas lunch aboard a steam train at some point in December, something I wouldn't have found out about otherwise. I must say that some of the stalls were selling very cheap 00 gauge engines and coaches compared to what the normal going rate would be. I've long since lapsed with my model railway but it was all interesting stuff. |

Unfortunately, Rishton Towers is undergoing renovations at the moment and Christmas is looming but the loft conversion starts next year and I have a mind that it will be put to good use.... |

First Time showing in The sports centre, one for Hyndburn nil for King Georges Hall Blackburn where it always used to be held. Now, if only we can get this classed as an art form the grants would come pouring in and perhaps the entrance fees could be reduced or even abolished? :) |

The main problem is actually getting him to arrange council meetings so that we can discuss the really serious issues in the borough. They're supposed to be every six weeks but we haven't had one since July. He also schedules most of the tricky ones with votes he's likely to lose at 1pm so that the Labour councillors have a devil of a time getting there. Democracy in action, vote Conservative if you like your borough run this way. |
Re: For Less
Getting back on thread, has anyone else visited the splendid East Lancashire Railway?
My wife was bored to tears but I loved every second. You can feel the enthusiasm from the people who run it. |

It was the big gauge('O'?) and it was an American engine with a cow catcher, headlamps and a caboose behind the carriages. Weighed a ton. The only problem was it was so big that to have a good run he had to build me tracks right through the house and down the back garden so it didn't get played with that often. Heaven knows where he got it from(not new) in the late 40s, probably a collectors item now. |
