oh my ... jake berry should actually check his history .... rossendale and darwen constituency as in the constituency he won ... as only been into being since 1997 .. not since 1983 .. seeing as in 1983 the constituency also covered haslingden .... because the constituency changed at the 1997 election ... ask bernard .. that was my first argument with him .. and he actually ended up trying to be the peacemaker .. oh dont get me started about boundary commission ...

All the seats are likely to change shape but I imagine one of the more northern lancashire seats will end up being squeezed out. Who knows, it's up to the boundary commission!

I think Andrew B is right. The Accrington urban area covers some 55,000 people so there will always be an Accrington seat plus 20,000 surrounding.

Currently there are 7,000 extra in Harwood which was with Clitheroe and 8,000 in part of Haslingden making 70,000. The new boundaries demand 76,000.

Mr Berry is concerned about his seat but Darwen in my view sits badly with Rossendale and Rossendale on it's own is way too small at 45,000 plus 8,000 in Haslingden. Jakes view is that he needs another 22,000 splitting Accringtons population of 35,000.

If we do have to merge with another area in the northwest, does it have to be an adjoining one?

Somewhere on the Lancashire riviera would be nice.

Perhaps Lytham St. Annes.

That nice Karen Buckley could apply for the job of being Graham's agent.

I've often wondered how they managed to merge Rossendale &Darwen, do they actually join anywhere ?

Those changes Jen were bloody stupid, no rhyme or reason to them, taking two wards out of Hassy and sticking them onto Hyndburn was barmy

It used to be Darwen and Ribble Valley at one time Dave

The really serious aspect of all the boundary changes is that there is no provision in the Act of Parliament for any appeal once the boundary commission had decided the constituency boundaries (in fact the bill abolishes the right of appeal against the boundary commission decisions). The new seats will be based on the December 2010 electoral role - and it is widely acknowledged that there are over 3.5 million people eligible to vote are will not be registered.

Also some council wards (and even polling districts) might be split between constituencies.

This really does appear to be gerrymandering on a huge scale.

Are the respective areas allowed to have an input Joan, seem to remember, although not sure, that before the last boundary changes local people were asked for their thoughts on he proposals
