Surgeries merge
21,000 Accrington and Pendle patients' GP practices merge (From Lancashire Telegraph)
Take it that the Accrington branch of this set up is what was the Avenue Parade surgery can't remember its name, from whats been said on here about that practice looks like things ain't going to gt better anytime soon:( |
Re: Surgeries merge
Peel House was the one on Avenue Parade...they moved into Pals.(they aren't mentioned)
The Acorn Medical Centre is the one on Blackburn Road in Accrington. I'm not sure which doctors use the Acorn Medical centre, but they aren't from Peel house. |

Re: Surgeries merge
A little websearch reveals two medical practices at the Acorn Centre
Dr T Manjooran & Partners, Hyndburn Medical Practice Dr MA Sajid, Eagle Medical Practice I visit that centre for chiropody every two months and always find the cavernous waiting area very sparsly populated by never more than 6 people. This lavish building, with its 'community art' must be costing a bomb to lease and heat. It looks like this latest move will be an attempt to make it more financially viable. |

Re: Surgeries merge
That gallery glass window must have cost a fair whack
look here - BB5 UK - Google Maps ...and those odd bits of shaped concrete on the paved area. There is more frivolity inside. The atrium roof light is filled with coloured streamers which block the light. They look like long strings of paper bow shapes (not crotcheted, so not really art ) |

Dr Manjooran was my doctor when I lived in Accy all those years ago. Looks like he has done well for himself.

I phone my Doctor on a 01254 number and usually get to see him at a suitable time without much difficulty. Open surgeries are ok if you don't work. Those of us that do need appointments to fit in with work. |

But you moved from the wilderness into Gods Country :D Its ok when you can just wonder down to the surgery after Jeremy Kyle has finished and stick a bottle of cold tea in your snotty faced kids gob while it sits in a dirty nappy in an even more dirty pram for an hour or two chatting with your mates about Jezza but some of us do work and need to be able to arrange appointments around work not around daytime TV. oops rant over |

This is not good when you are feeling rough as rope. They should concentrate on treating the sick folks and leave the well alone.....but alas that doesn't tick the governmental boxes! |

I don't have a problem with my Doc. Maybe you need to move to another practice. |

When i joined Peel House it was a really good practice.......with Doctors that I knew and trusted(many of them had trained on the wards that I had myself worked on)....now it has got too big and is very impersonal.......you never see the same doctor twice, so how do they maintain continuity...short answer is that they don't. To them it doesn't seem to matter, but to patients it is of paramount importance. |

Re: Surgeries merge
How did we manage before almost every house had a phone or everyone had a mobile? Yes, I remember sitting in the Surgery Waiting Room for what seemed like hours, but probably no more than an hour - always in the evening.
Group practices seem to be a great idea - for the doctors and the nurses that are employed there - overheads are shared. Dr McFadden and then Dr Quinn seemed to manage OK without a nurse or receptionist up to the early '60s and they did house visits! |
Re: Surgeries merge
Barrie......that was before the meddling governments got involved. GP's back then saw sick people....and the sick benefitted......now GP's are involved in preventative medicine(and I'm not saying that is a bad thing) and it gets harder and harder for those who are ill to see a doctor.......oh, yes and before anyone has a go......I don't go to the doctor for piffling ailments that I can sort out for myself.(as those folk who know me will testify)

Re: Surgeries merge
Yes, John......that just shows how very self centred some folk are.......don't they understand the concept of 'emergency'?
I wouldn't visit my GP ever.....I only go when I am in a half Nelson and being railroaded up that hill to the practice........and I do consider that I am lucky to have reasonable health for my age. |
