A polite Request.
I know that Accyweb members are the salt of the earth.......and that is why I post this request.
Please, if you have elderly/infirm neighbours, could you please check that they are alright? That they are warm and have bread, milk and the everyday items that they need. It is easy to forget them during this busy time, but during this cold snap they may need a little bit of help. I know that some of you will not need this reminder. Many thanks in advance.....you will be rewarded......somewhere along the line.:) |
Re: A polite Request.
Done it!! It is a good idea that you have reminded folk tho.
Neil could take them out on his new sledge................:p sorry couldnt resist! |
Re: A polite Request.
As long as he makes sure they are well wrapped up against the cold!

I'm pleased you are being looked after John.
And in these snowy times you don't have to be 'old' to need a hand. |

I'm knocking 80, need a stick to walk, but I'll not be appreciating any body knockin on my door, an very few know my telephone number, if I've nowt to eat thats my fault. Retlaw |
Re: A polite Request.
Well, Retlaw, because you do not appreciate someone knocking to find out if you are alright, it doesn't mean that others wouldn't appreciate a bit of help.
We all know the folk in our own area, and if we see them out and about we know that they are alright........but do we really want to read about someone being dead in their home for weeks and no-on appearing to know(or care for that matter). And it might not be your fault if you have nothing to eat......if someone does knock on your door to find out if you Ok, be thankful that you were thought about......you can politely say 'thank you for your concern, I am fine'......it costs nothing. I am not a 'do-gooder' just a neighbourly person who cares about those in my own community. |

However, I do know those people in my own area who find it hard to get about when there is no snow about....these are the people who I would check on and get a bit of shopping if they wanted it, or help to clear their path of snow, anything that makes their life a bit easier(and safer). Maybe it is my Nursing background that makes me think of them. |

Some independent elderly people may have a grumble at being asked if they need help , but it's still worth asking . Last week two old people were found dead in their garden in Cumbria . It's best to get a bit of stick than see that happen . I notice that the ones offering help are usually getting on a bit themselves , like Ken Hargreaves with Jaysay . They are the salt of the earth in my opinion . |
Re: A polite Request.
I'm no spring chicken myself, and I guess there are those who would consider me a candidate for help......but I am fit and able, and as such I feel it is good to help those who accept help.
My dear old Ma is in her 80's and disabled, but has the attitude of someone in their 30's...however she knows her limitations and over the years has become accepting of the fact that she needs help when the weather is as bad as it has been. |
Re: A polite Request.
Prompted me to think about all my neighbours, Margaret. Luckily, no one is in this situation, having good family members and partners... 'cept me of course.
I am fine at the moment as have family who care and have decent heating and the ability to still drive and do my shopping, etc. Tell you what though ... if ever I were in trouble .. would log onto Accyweb, and know there would be lots of members on here that would offer any assistance. :) |
