Today I had to wait in for the guy to do the annual gas check, O.K. a bit inconvenient, I've had to take time off work.

The bloke himself pleasant enough and in a rather embarrassed manner handed me a survey form from my Landlord.

Now, I don't mind telling them my Nationality, (I'm proud to be British), but why should they need or even want, to know my religion or sexual orientation?

to me, answering that question in endless application forms is a form of racism isn't it? what does it matter if you're gay or straight or even a bit of both? it doesn't stop you doing the job you have applied for....a load of bollox if you ask me

Once again it appears to be that another nonentity (Hyndburn housing group) wants to hold files & information on the populace, ever more encroachment on the publics private sphere it seems.

Are they intending to send personnel to people who are like minded in outlook & ethnicity, sexual orientation & religion ? So if you put Chinese lesbian, Buddhist who dislikes cats, would someone with the same opinions & views turn to to read your meter ? (some interesting options here)

If not, I don't see any relevance to their enquiries, turn up read the meter/do what's required & on their way.

My mistake then thinking it was Hyndburn. Still I'd say that it adds more credence to my points then as it is "only a Company" they have even less reason for information gathering than a local Council. :)

I think I would have told the person brandishing the form exactly where to go...but in terms so sweet, he would have looked forward to packing for the journey.
And as for the £250 sweetener...what chance do you think you have of getting your mitts on that Less?(Ok...more than the person who didn't fill it in)....my guess is...... a snowflakes!

I'd agree with that Cashy, but wouldn't it be good to fill it out with total opposites, or things completely at odds with the truth ? Well if they're going to waste your time ....... ? :D

Would not have been fair to have a go at the gas fitter, he was apologising as he passed the form over, obviously he is 'under orders' from above.
If you looked at the scanned copies I reproduced, you will see that I wrote M.Y.O.B. to the answers, if I hadn't filled it in they wouldn't get the message not to be so rudely nosey in future.
I have not made any plans to go on a spending spree with any winnings, I know I have more chance of being nominated for Britain's sexiest bum award 2011 than winning that.

Less, if you check my post....I said I would do it sweetly...you catch more flies with a spoonfull of sugar than you do with a barrel of vinegar(there are some posters on here who would do to remember that old adage...no names, no packdrill!).
And as for checking the scanned document.......I have the eyesight that is envied by most underground moles of the area....so struggled to see it.......and I must admit to not really wanting to know what answers you put on the form

Less, you've given it all away-'British-white'. Prefered language-'English'. That slots you into 'Minority group, safe to ignore'. You'll be lucky if they leave your gas on!

You make it too easy for them. Next time remember- you need to be communicated with by sign language/other,you're a White/British/Chinese/Other,you're a Pagan Buddist whose prefered language is Mandarin Chinese and tick ALL the boxes for sexuality(they'll think you're a fun person).
That should get you a good score! Even FREE gas.
Oh, and tell them if you don't win the £250 you'll sue for racial,religious and sexual discrimination.

I prefer the direct approach. On a census form I stated that I was English and unilingual. Then I answered all the questions in French and wrote "manger de la merde" in all the boxes I felt were intrusive.:D

But as Less rightly observed, it would have been most unfair to have a go at the poor Gas engineer......so a subtle approach would have been appropriate for the engineer...now the responses on the form...well that is a fish of a very different colour!
