Tesco and the Market Hall

It seems that the following motion by Councillor O'Kane at last week's Council provoked a walk out by the Conservative Group.

This Council welcomes Tesco’s recognition of the hard work and dedication of local
Hyndburn resident Mrs Mandy Rawstron by asking her to open their £32 million pound
store and acknowledges the Council’s mistake in paying £8000 to a celebrity chef to open the refurbished Market Hall.

I can only ask why this motion was ever allowed within a million miles of the Council Agenda. The celebrity chef didn't open the refurbished market hall. That was done by the esteemed Leader complete with his medal. The motion looks as if it is mischief making of the worst most underhand kind.

What on earth was going on? It just makes the whole Council look stupid.

It does when taken out of context, particularly since Cllr O'Kane was praising Mrs Rawstron's effort to secure gloves for troops in Afghanistan as part of the speech and appealing to council's better nature.

Of all the posturing that Peter Britcliffe has done in that chamber over the years, it is this that pushes you into starting a thread? You surprise me. Whatever your views on politics, walking out of a council chamber because your Leader spits the dummy out is not exactly laudable either.

Not really, it was just another delay in a very long evening where everyone was starting to lose their rag.

The Mayor stated that at 10pm he would be dismissing the chamber to reconvene another evening to finish business. The Tories voted to keep going and then complained bitterly at every opportunity about the time.

Personally speaking, it was just another good reason not to be aligned with Peter Britcliffe.

Sorry John.

Just pent up frustration at not having a council meeting for six months thanks to the Leader.

Still, fair's fair, 13 years of Labour government have made it impossible to have them more often....

....so what was the reference to the cook in the Market Hall all about?

Peter B's posturing has prompted me to start threads before, by the way. The Leaders Medal thread was designed to do more than give people a chance to see the medal.:rolleyes:

But it was unusual for the controlling group to walk out. I can only remember it happening once before. It did make for an interesting debate.

Exactly, i was always under the foolish impression that councilors are there to represent Hyndburn n the people who were stupid enough to vote em in? those that walk out of a meeting whichever party they happen to be, are weak n spineless, n in my opinion should resign, as they are not fit to represent HYNDBURN, simple as.:( anyone disagree? if so please give a valid reason.

I wouldn't have thought a full blown psychiatric case would have much spare time, got to admire you for fitting it all in, now, if you could just spare a little more time and actually answer Cashy?

Went in that new Tesco today, never again, hell of a lot of cars in the car park, don't think I saw 50 people & that included staff, loads of stuff with no price tags, plenty of stuff with 2 prices, turns out one price is Asda's price, but loads of there stuff is dearer than Asda.
Looks like a lot are taking advantage of free parking, and going else where, last and best of all the way out was blocked, securiity guard directing you to the lift, seems the moving walkway has broken down practically every other day since they opened.

Well if Brother Ken or Brother Bernard would be prepared to tell me just what this claptrap was all about I may have a view, but seeing I don't know what went on, I care even less, always remembering there are two sides to every story. You may not really notice but I have not supported the goings on at HBC because half of it is indefensible, but seeing I'm the only person who has any connections with the Tory party who regularly comes on here, unlike the labour members who disappeared for weeks and had no comments on their crap government antics, and only appear when they think they can score points, most of them suffering from amnesia on the last time they ran HBC. I have no doubt that Labour will take control in May, I just hope I'm still here to witness all their weasel words

Cashy I haven't a clue what the claptrap is all about, I must have been something very very serious as I ain't seen a report in any of the local rags, so that tells me more that Ken and Bernard put together, the later being very incoherent the best of time:confused:

The Conservative Councillors staged a pre-determined walkout of the Council meeting, when we were about discuss a resolution concerning the market hall.

I wasn't talking about you ducking the issue, Jay, I was just making a wry comment on the irony of you accusing someone else of being "incoherent" with a phrase which bears only a passing resemblance to the English language. ;)

Well it's only a few months off the local elections , Cashman .

In last year's I got a four page leaflet from a candidate in Spring Hill ward . It took him all four pages just to tell me that the roads would be gritted this winter .

I think the time is right now for the councillors to give us some policies that would be implemented if their party had control of the council . I don't me stuff about grit , the market , Tesco etc. I am talking about the big issues like how they would deal with the cuts , with redundancies , with real attempts to create jobs .

We have a right to know this . How can we make a decision otherwise ?
