Government to Scrap Independent Living Fund for Severely Disabled

It appears the Government now want to cut the cash help provided to help some of the most Severely Disabled people live independently at home! Surely this kind of thing is a cut too far! Guess they are yet again, hoping the weakest in Society havn't got a strong enough voice or support base to fight these disgraceful cuts!

My thoughts exactly Less, i've emailed Graham to see if he can bring any pressure to bear, & he's started by writing to the Minister for Work & Pensions, to get a response from him. Ive also emailed 6 major charities to see if they will be campaigning againt this, but more in hope than expectation i'll have to admit!

Where is this pledge to look after the most vunerable now?

Best Regards - Taggy

Absolutely disgusting. The Tories probably expect that local people will start helping the Severly Disabled for nothing under this "Big Society" banner - it's a disgrace!

i guess cameron wants them to be forced into care so that they have to sell their homes and use their money from the sale to pay for the care home until the money runs out .

its a callous way to sort out the housing shortage and once the poor sods money has ran out the tax payer will be lumped with teh care home bill which will be hundreds of pounds a day per person where as a care assistant is a fraction of the cost and teh person gets to stay in their home.

like someone else has said these people cant fight back so are an easy target for cameron.

What did they say.. no cuts to the NHS?..and this is from a commons committee with an overall conservative majority..will people smell the coffee and realise the destruction and manufactured breakdown these people are hell bent on by ideology of no services for those who cannot afford the best? BBC News - NHS and social services tested to the limit, say MPs

We all know people already do that ..it's one of the last sense of feeling in any society to look after the weaker members .. but it has never been on the tory agenda.. and the so called lib-dems are useless.

Steven Dorrell, who chairs the committee, said the NHS had to save 4% a year for four years - a "huge ask".
Is it a huge ask?

It might be for an already efficient business but the NHS is far from efficient.

whilst i agree its far from efficient, thats 16% oer 4 years? not really knowing the waste figures it may be a huge ask or it may not, what is clear to me is cuts MUST not be made in this particular area.

There was an article the other week in I think the Guardian, which said for every 1000 clinicians there were 998 support staff, or a 1 to 1 basis, no organisation can justify this amount of top heavy bureaucracy

But surely scrapping the Independent Living Fund is going to mean that ultimately it will cost more money for the NHS! There are some people claiming this that are living life, going out to events etc. Removing this Fund will stop them living a relatively normal life.
