Our wonderful post office

Just got my mail a few minutes ago, just 1 single item, hand addressed, 2nd class stamp, I open the envelope which wasn't sealed just folded in, low and behold its a Christmas Card, on the envelope it says it was posted at 7.50am on 04.12.10, so its only taken the Post Office 37 days to deliver an item posted not half a mile from my home, wonderful:mad::mad::mad:

Obviously ! The Country is in melt down ! The discontent of the masses will sweep across the land in the form of revolt & rampage lead by rabid unions & their herds of sheeple ! Disruption, civil disobedience with violence, picket lines & violent clashes with instruments of the establishment will be the food of the revolutionaries. Exalted, praised & encouraged by their Marxist leaders, red flags flying, some on here (;) you know who you are :D) in their militant mode will rejoice the revolution !

That being the case & the glorious rule of Socialism being ushered in & a new & golden era, all men (& I believe Women) will be equal ! So you will no longer have a Postie to deliver your post you'll be taking turns in picking it up from TPPC (The Peoples Post Collective) & delivering it yourself to your Brothers & Sisters of the Party in their Collectives & Communes ! :s_aim1:
Incidentally you won't even get minimum wage, it'll be a bottle of Vodka & a handful of Roubles to take back to your Hovel, as the state will cover your needs Komradski Jay ! ;)

I know this, You know this & quite a few other sane Folk know this ......... But, there are still some misguided souls out there who haven't quite grasped that yet & for the life of me I can't think why ? :D

I'm still waiting on some post (Oct 2nd 2010) as I mentioned on the "man sends lottery ticket by mail " thread. Think it is in that great unexplored vortex known as the Post office main sorting shed ! That or some lazy Postie slung it over a hedge somewhere !

Posted my brother in law birthday card beginning of December, which never arrived. Got a complaints form from post office, filled it in and ready to drop of tomorrow. Received a phone call from him this afternoon saying he'd received it today. Wonder if it was from the same postbox jaysay. (Posted mine at Lancaster Ave)

I received a parcel from Canada for Christmas, post marked in canada on 6th December, Franked in Preston England on the 12th December, delivered to my address on 29th December so it took longer to get from Preston than it did to get to Preston from Canada, still I suppose I did receive it in the first delivery after Christmas so shouldn't really complain.

I got a card through the door from the GPO saying there was a package that needed collecting from there infirmary st depot but there was something to pay
we where expecting a package from New Zealand so thought it was that me and the wife was calling our mates for under paying.
anyway the following day i went to the depot and gave the guy the card
oh yes its here there is £1:19p to pay er OK i said its from New Zealand so not too much extra.
he said no this package is from Preston and when he gave it me it was just a Christmas card i opened it then and there and found it was from my 80 year old mum who had put a second class stamp on but because it was a big card it should have been first class i asked why £1:19p he said there was 19p extra on the card and £1 handling charge

Surely the moral of all these stories is not to waste time & dosh sending cards and pressy's in the first instance; spend your money down the pub instead.

Re: Our wonderful post office

I feel I have to wade in here with a positive comment to defend our poor Post Offices! It's Royal Mail that is to blame here, let's not forget.

I'll forgive a little slippage in service over the Christmas period, no doubt exacerbated by the poor weather conditions, and just point out that a First Class stamp still gets things from A to B in an extremely cheap manner. I often have to send out parcel batches of over 50 items and the Postmistress in Rishton will simply take everything and do it over the course of the day so as not to hold up the queues. It saves me waiting, it saves holding everyone up and the cost is a damn sight cheaper than driving each parcel to its location.

If you think there are problems now, pray that it never gets privatised. I was watching part of the debate yesterday on BBC Parliament and it was briefly mentioned that a Post Bank is not out of the question.

I personally still feel this to be the best all-round solution to the problem and would give the high street banks a good hard kick in the nuts too.

Hey Up Ken - from one of your previous posts, I thought you'd set up competition with the Royal Mail - Red Ken's Rishy Snail Mail (all junk delivered).

I've just received my first Christmas card for 2011.

Unless it was meant for Christmas 2010. Seeing as it was posted in Essex on December 6th.

All the best.

:D
