I can't see why we need so many MP's. Why not have a dictator, many people seem to think it works well for our council, we could model the country on the same structure :D

Aye, given the fact that two thirds of all Laws & 'Directives' that directly effect the people of this country, the County and the Borough are made not by any elected authority, but by the non-elected European Commission.

You mean some sort of megalomaniac, who decorates himself with medals he's has specially commissioned for himself?

"..We've both been out seeing residents this evening and posting Christmas cards.."

Could someone please explain why it is neccessary for elected councillors to spend time pounding the streets shoving junk mail through respectable peoples' front doors?

Surely if this is the best defence that Hyndburn councillors can come up with, then the sooner they are reduced in number, the better.

It isn't 'the best defence I can come up with' and the 86 phone calls I've had from the Christmas card drop asking for help over the festive period prove to me that it was a worthwhile exercise. Giving people a list of helpful telephone numbers along with a reminder of how to get in touch is 'junk mail' yet you complain bitterly that you only ever see us at election time - how do I prove my worth then?

It's blatantly obvious that you don't have a clue about how myself and Cllr Grayson work in Rishton and there is considerably more to being a councillor than 'junk mail' as you put it.

For the record, which ward are you in?

Maybe in Oswaldtwistle, John.

Perhaps time for a questioning look at who runs that august ward?

The People's Republic of Tower Hamlets.

They don't have wards, as they're seen as being too English a concept.

Well done you.

I think most people throw such things in the bin then when they have a problem wish they had not. Regular reminders are a good idea I think.

Thank you, Neil.

Easily the most heartbreaking incident was a little old lady who was going to be alone on Christmas Day and phoned up to thank me for giving her the Samaritans' number. It must be terribly lonely on your own on Christmas Day and I hope she found some small comfort.

We greatly appreciated the Christmas Card with the useful information included. Thank you.:)
