Bad News for Women Drivers ...

there was a test case in the courts .. about women drivers paying less for their car insurance ... under the equality laws ...

BBC News - Insurance premiums to change after ECJ gender ruling

and guess what .. they've said its illegal and now women drivers will now have to pay more because of fellas with their accidents ... but also it will affect the pension annuity as well .. fellas used to get more for their money as they didnt live as long ... well its now going to be brought into line with women ....

Good.

No more Sheila's Wheels adverts.

Sexual discrimination is wrong.

Even if it's all pink and fluffy, and given an annoying jingle.

There should be massive insurance savings available for all drivers...who can parallel park.

:D

Exactly what I've always said about positive discrimination, it generates ill-feeling and resentment. The problems come when you try and redress the balance in the name of equality and create a bigger mess than if everyone had just been left alone in the first place.

Equality can't be selective, we either want it or we don't.

Don't give up hope.

There are people still fighting, in the hope that one day, you too may be equal to others.

Re: Bad News for Women Drivers ...

the downside to this for men is that it used to knock a few quid off your policy if you stuck a womans details on your policy.Used to bring mine down by over £100

i notice how they are increasing the womens policy fees and not bringing mens down to the level of womens eh

its the same as how they want to increase supermarket prices for beer to help pubs instead of bringing pub prices for beer down

yup infact i bet they jumped with joy at this ruleing after relising they no longer had to give discounts for women.

i do agree it was all wrong with sheilas wheels and like others have said if they had done the same for men instead there would have been uproar about discrimination

Sexual Equality = will only be when men can get pregnant and give birth au naturel way an all !!

Until then no such thing, tho it's Xmas for insurers and find many may have to re evaluate affording to drive, that seals my fate then. Why can't insurers bring all costs down.

Re: Bad News for Women Drivers ...

It does seem a little unfair, after all insurance companies base their premiums on the risk value, and women were in a category of a lower risk payout than men. :(

So are they going to re-assess the risk then for living in an M15 area and not a BB5 location ? Can get your car nicked/pranged anywhere these days.

Personally i think its another fine example of P.C. gone mad, should be used to this by now, but i aint.:(

accyman 01-03-2011 19:26

Re: Bad News for Women Drivers ...

i thought it was wrong for women to get cheaper premiums because women have less accidents and not for gender reasons

the main reason why women are less likely to claim is because there are less women driving than men.If there was more women driving than men then men would be less likely to claim because they would hold less insurance policies.:)

Re: Bad News for Women Drivers ...

Its surprising, but I have never been a very good passenger in any vehicle, seeing driving was part of my job, I was far more at home behind the wheel of a car or anything else for that matter. Its therefore rather surprising that I now feel very safe when out in the car with either Joan or my Daughter, they are both very good and safe drivers, who are not frightened to put their foot down when needed:D:D

Re: Bad News for Women Drivers ...

I was seething with this ruling, and as ken said it has really opened a can of worms Its not just car insurance that this will now apply for, It's all insurance policies that will have to fall in line. Where is the line that we draw, health insurance should be the same rate even if you drink and smoke excessively? And now Ageism applies too so older people will have to pay higher prices

Some stupid idiot was only thinking about himself!

Sadly, if we are to have equality for all, it sometimes comes at a price.

There were probably similar complaints about costs when the Equal Pay Act become law in 1975. When women, doing the same job as a man, were for the first time entitled to the same pay.
