Demolished houses on Hyndburn Road
Does anyone know what's happening to the land in the Regeneration Area on Hyndburn Road next to Matalan where all the houses have been demolished? We have enquired if there has been a planning application submitted for a mosque and as yet that seems not to be the situation. The Council's preferred option for the use of the land is to support and facilitate the development of a new mosque and community centre. We, ABARA have been told that prior to any planning application being submitted, the council require a further public consultation, this time organised in conjunction with the mosque committee. Can anyone enlighten us as to what is going to happen with this land?

Re: Demolished houses on Hyndburn Road
I believe the Council have agreed to sell the land for £175,000 to the Mosque Committee. That was the last I heard.

Re: Demolished houses on Hyndburn Road
As far as I know the plans are near to dead in the water. there was some major issue with cars possibly parking on hyndburn road and it was stuck there.
i dont even think any plans have been even drawn up yet. i've not seen plans etc nor any footprints etc The houses were empty and the streets were beginning to attract gypsies and i'm sure the arsonists wouldnt have been far behind. I've got a feeling they'll just level them and place huge bollards to stop any vehicles coming onto the land for the time being. |

there would be an outcry if it went for as little as that!!
lemme go hunt around i'll ask at the mosque next time i see one of the commitee members around |
Re: Demolished houses on Hyndburn Road
Outrageous! I understand Abara REQUESTED a meeting with HBC and a Mosque Committee representiative over 12 months ago. Cllr MP facilitated the meeting but the HBC and Mosque rep said they could only stay for half hour! Is PB getting the deal done for votes?
MANI.... i share your sorrow. I lost one of my favourite actors this year .... Pete Postlethwaite. |

Re: Demolished houses on Hyndburn Road
I see your simple , sorry your simple way ok ill moan because how on earth do you do something about a thing thats allready been decided, so i chose to moan , but moan to the right people

Also what you're moaning about is rubbish, so far we've been given no plans, dates or anything substantial, anyway, just a thought why is it so bad? How long is it since the so called 'Christians', spent anything on a new Church, I think the last one mentioned on this site was Sacred Heart when it was being demolished. If you want to stop a mosque, get together with a few like minded folk and offer more for the land and you pray for peace. |

We can see how the areas of Blackburn Road have become run down and frankly, a dump. If you criticise (because it is mainly an area populated by asians) then the cry of 'Racist' goes up...........I don't care who owns the properties along this stretch of road.....they could be sky blue pink for me......they should be made to maintain the area properly.......there are areas like this in what were once affluent and well maintained places in our town....that have now become rundown and horrible......and don't tell me it is because they haven't had money spent on them because they have...grants galore. |

I think the properties should be maintained by the owners. If they allow the property to become an eyesore they should be instructed by the Council to sort it out. If this is not possible at present then the Council should make it possible with byelaws or whatever. I dont like public money improving private property for the financial gain of the owner. Maybe speak with our MP and the Local Councillors for the area and find out what can be done and why it is not being done. |
Re: Demolished houses on Hyndburn Road
I have had experience in trying to challenge decisions that seem to have been made regardless of any representation from local residents, it took a lot of time, a lot of effort and resulted in precisely nothing.
I am at the bum end of my life and what I have left is too precious to waste on challenging the bureaucracy......it seems to me that who has most cash usually wins(or who has the most influential friends too). I don't plan to go down that route again any time soon. |

Neil, I am not a quitter.......I know my limitations and I am unable and unwilling to commit the needed emotional energy that is required for such a venture.
My tolerance of frustrations has got a lot less these days. |

Why be all talk and no action?
"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing." (Edmund Burke) Time and again those who profess to be good seem to clearly outnumber those who are evil, yet those who are evil seem to prevail far too often. Seldom is it the numbers that determine the outcome, but whether those who claim to be good men are willing to stand up and fight for what they know to be right.

Re: Demolished houses on Hyndburn Road
Whilst I agree that some parts of Blackburn Rd are a mess,( and I still mourn the senseless demolition of my old house on Holland Street) I have been having more of a look around since the thread which featured the derelict courtyard on Bank Street.
And whilst obviously not in a predominantly Asian area have a look at Whalley Rd and Mason St , what a shambles! Mason St is a tiny street that runs down the side of that horrible Army surplus place, all the houses bar 1 are boarded up, the opposite side of Whalley Rd used to house Mary's Music , a takeaway and a hairdressers, now all looking very derelict, and what used to be Wolstenholmes and latterly Motability place also derelict, the motorbike place standing empty, this is pretty much town centre....... |
Re: Demolished houses on Hyndburn Road
my parents have a house on steiner street that is very run down and just standing there doing nothing. Apparently they are pulling the houses down right next to their house(so unlucky for them i know) They are trying to sell it and have asians that want to buy that have cash ready but they have a problem with deeds missing or something and now they have to proove they have been living there 30+ years... What a joke it has become.
Lately the house has been broken into several times. The boiler has been stolen among other things and just this week the garage doors have been taken. This town is a joke and the people that run it are complete... |

I wrote to my councillor and MP giving what I thought were several valid reasons why this too large men's club/mosque should not be built on what should be land for affordable homes..

Re: Demolished houses on Hyndburn Road
The current obsession with demolishing terraced houses is going to be looked on as a mistake in future years. We live in a mid-terrace and it's the most solid property I could have wished for, plenty of room and cheap to run.
You wouldn't get rooms this size in a new build or a 'studio apartment'. |
Re: Demolished houses on Hyndburn Road
Heth said: <<Dont hold your breath for a reply Lucysgirl!>>
Heth, I didn't expect a reply but I did expect a responsible re-think after I pointed out to them that a previous government *dictat had ordered them to build 10,000 new homes within the next 10 years. I reminded them that the council could NOT find enough land to meet the target. I further reminded them that there was still a shortfall of land even after they had surreptitiously set planning permission in motion to build on Baxenden allotments and Huncoat football fields. In credit crunch times when people need a home with a garden to grow food would it be fair to use land which had the imprint of old houses and give planning permission for a very large building for the sole use of some local males and their out of town visitors. *P.S. that government dictat was withdrawn near the end of that 10 year period. |
Re: Demolished houses on Hyndburn Road
I was under the impression that two or three mosques were being demolished to make way for the new house building work going on already. I thought the Hyndburn Road mosque was to replace those, though I could be wrong. I also think the new building should make more of a statement - it is the way into town - and as long as the new mosque is attractive, i think it could be a good idea.

Re: Demolished houses on Hyndburn Road
Did you notice the small number of vehicles the proposed carpark could hold by those using the two premises? It's far too small and that was another of my reasons.

Re: Demolished houses on Hyndburn Road
No! I am not an expert, didn't even realise a planing application with details had gone in it yet, thought it was just a concept....
