Rossendale Transport....thieving gits!

Fuming not quite the word here folks...my daughter gets the 464 back from Haslingden after school , kids single to Accy....last week it was £1.40......this week.......£2.00!!!! A whole .60p per journey! Might not sound a lot but to me it's an absolute shocker, where the hell does that rise come from when my own weekly pass to Blackburn hasn't changed? There's a right load of twaddle on their website trying to justify it , and because I work full time and don't subsist on handouts she isn't entitled to free travel so current busfare is £ 3.65 a day!! Probably some of you will think it's my fault for sending her to a school out of the area but , let's be honest, a .60p rise over a weekend , it's a shambles. Stroppy email sent and be warned if you get on one of their buses, visit the cashpoint first!

My other half works at the Bay horse in Baxenden and she thought she would catch the bus there last saturday then have a drink after work , from park pub to bay horse !£1.60 !!!!
a taxi would have only been £2.00 from door to door !!

there was notices on the buses that the fares were going up ....and it was on there website.

When I was at BRGS it was cheaper to get a day rover for £6.

Re: Rossendale Transport....thieving gits!

Even if you did 'live on handouts' you still wouldn't get free travel for her, you chose to send her to a school out of town so it is upto you to pay her way to school, we are in Blackburn, i chose to send Reece to school in Hyndburn, i 'live on handouts' i have to pay his fare , simple as that, would it not work out cheaper for you to buy her a childs weekly pass? Thats what i buy Reece

Yeah I saw them on Tues ( she wasn't in school Mon as at a funeral), thought an extra 30p would cover it easy! All very well putting "revised fares", no idea how much till you get on, in my daughter's case the driver had to let her ( and several others) on for what they had got. Daughter even lent money to another schoolkid tonight who hadn't enough.

well sorry but i dont think rossendale transport are thieving gits .. first bus in falkirk/grangemouth charged me last week £2.70 to go from grangemouth to falkirk ... and their fares are going up this weekend ....

Yes but you lot up there get free perscriptions :tongueout:D

Re: Rossendale Transport....thieving gits!

Just a question: I remember that bus fares over there were calculated according to distance travelled. Is this still the case? Kingston Transit buses, owned and operated by the City of Kingston and subsidised by municipal taxes, charge $2.50 for a ride anywhere in the city limits. If you have to change buses, the transfer ticket is free. And another question: when did Accrington Corporation Transport (?) stop operating buses in the area? I have fond memories of riding the #1 from the Forts Arms in Clayton to the Black Dog in Ossie. Almost every stop was a pub.:theband: And weren't the colours of the buses those of the Pals?

Re: Rossendale Transport....thieving gits!

No way anyone can say a 60p rise on a £1.40 fare is justifiable.
That must be close to 40%.

shillelagh 30-03-2011 21:38

Re: Rossendale Transport....thieving gits!

yes i know i get free prescriptions .. and have done since i was 16 .. but whats that got to do with it .. seeing as i live in rossendale ...

I agree, it's very OTT.

Whats even stranger is their logic

Quote:

The way child fares will be calculated will be simplified. All standard child fares will be calculated at 65% of the standard adult fare.*

It's a damn site easier to work out half-fare than it is 65%,

Should children pay less than an adult?
They still take up a seat.
Why don't we all pay the same?

You can pass that rule if you want, then deal with the pensioners yourself ;)

just checked, it's £15 for a childs weekly 'Rover' on Rossendale transport making it £3.25 a week cheaper if you buy her a weekly ticket (5x £3.65)

using Transdev a weekly 'silver' childs ticket will cost £10.20, with this ticket she can go to other places at the weekend such as ....

Accrington
Blackburn/Darwen
Bacup, Town Centre
Bolton, Moor Lane Bus Station
Chorley, Interchange
Clitheroe, Interchange
Haslingden, Bent Gate or Road End
Keighley, Bus Station
Preston, Bus Station
Rawtenstall, Bank Street / Bus Station
Skipton, Bus Station
Todmorden, Bus Station

i know which i'd opt for

it will take her as far as school during the week too

Doubt yeh would ask that if yer had to pay full fer yer kids everywhere, whats the difference between buses n other venues? seats are seats.

Having reduced fares for some people must increase the fare for full paying people so is it really fair?

Its always been that way Neil, you'd not be spouting that load of crap if your kids had to get the bus everywhere, a lot of us have no choice but to put our children on the bus, sorry for not being as fortunate as you, some of us can't afford one car let alone 2, i suggest you put your brain in gear next time you intend chatting bubbles

I was not stating an opinion either way. My lad uses the bus to get home from school every day and uses it some days to get to school, he did today.

The "mission" bus stop (one lower down nearer to Accy) used to be a stage if this is still the case it would have been cheaper to get off there and walk up.

sory for the slight wander but i grew up in baxenden and it was called the mission back then.I remember that it was origonaly a petrol station where the newer houses are now but the mission seems an odd name for a petrol station. Is there any specific reason it was called the mission ?

Do kids under 5 still travel free on busses?

I also remember as a child seeing notices on busses saying a half fare paying child was expected to give up its seat for a full paying adult if seats were all taken

Also i heard that lancashire county council have cut funding to rossendale transport so they have had to raise prices where as other transport companies havnt had cuts of the same magnitude. If this is true then maybe a letter would be better directed at lancashire county council

Before the petrol station was built, there was a Wesleyan Mission there.

Fares ~ Transdev

Thanks for the info, I've already checked all the alternatives, problem is the best times for her and closest to school are an X41 ( Transdev) in the morning, and a 464 (Rossendale Transport) bus home, if the X41 was available after school she would get that but it currently means a 40+ minute wait on her own in a bus stop. And I am well aware of it being my choice to send her to Hassy High, one I don't regret, I just object to being fleeced by a bus company that pretty much has a monopoly on bus travel up the Valley. ( Also informed by a Rossendale bus driver that they " don't do return tickets for children" Quality.

i was just pointing out that even people such as me who 'sponge off the state' don't get free bus travel

as you say, you don't regret sending her there, as i don't with our choice for Reece, sometimes we have to go that extra mile in life just to get something decent

A "stage": that's it. Now I remember how they calibrated the fares.

To be honest I think all the buses in East Lancs, bus passes aside, are ridiculously overpriced. I currently study at Edge Hill University in Ormskirk and can get as far as Blackburn (certain journeys to Accrington) for £3.50. Imagine my shock to find that return from Blackburn to the Hare & Hounds in Clayton is now a fiver!!! :(

As mentioned earlier....robbing gets.

Yes I get a Preston Day Rider for £3.50 and get the 2A from Ormskirk to Preston. Then change at Preston for the 59 to Blackburn and use the same ticket. Sometimes the 59 continues to Accy.

I'm at Edge Hill and before I was driving I got the train, bus takes too long!

I agree about bus fairs being expensive I got a return from Ossy town hall to Accy Vic it was £3.60, it would have cost me that in a taxi.
