There are things that I can agree with you on Baggy, but not religion, mac made some good observations regarding translators and the like, I know that if you are in say Spain France Germany etc and you need an interpreter, you pay for one yourself, that's the way it should be, but the Uk is about the only place on earth it isn't. It's the same in the NHS to my way of thinking, the only time your NHS treatment is free at the point of access is when its your right, so I think you should have lived in this country for SAY 5 years before its free and then only if you meet the right criteria, excluding EU there are women who are pregnant, who book holidays to the UK just to coincide with the birth, wonderful. I've always wondered why, when I had a chest infection that I only get a course of antibiotics consisting of say 30 capsules (or a ten day course) when some members of ethnic communities get 60 capsules, and I know that for a fact because I have a mate who's wife is a dispensing chemist, and it does happen regularly, but as I've said before this is nothing to do with religion, this is about right and wrong

Hopefully a little clarification for you both (as I see it at least) WM221, SamF

Bagpuss posted #35, the "mission statement" of the EDL & in their first paragraph they go to great lengths to differentiate, between oppressive & radical Islam as opposed to moderate Islam. The Muslim believers themselves have vastly differing takes on the interpretation of the Koran & it's meanings dependent on the leanings of those spoken with.

Whilst we must always protect against the unjust assumption that all Muslims are complicit in or somehow responsible for these crimes, we must not be afraid to speak freely about these issues. This is why the EDL will continue to work to protect the inalienable rights of all people to protest against radical Islam’s encroachment into the lives of non-Muslims.

The above taken from the EDL's "Mission statement" on their homepage. So if their intents are as they say & that any & all may partake in & affiliate to the EDL, this statement infers that Muslims may also be members, so long as they harbour no radical intents & believe in moderate & fair treatment of all peoples. That said, from what one reads & sees not many Muslims have taken up the EDL on their offer, lack of clarity ? Uncertainty as to goals ? Or peer pressure from within their own communities ?

Once again I must thank you Dave for your reply, it's all there in the mission statement. I have been told the EDL does have a small number of muslim members, approx 15, but they have ticked the box for no publicity at the moment although there is talk that we may have a muslim speaker at the next demo. I still think a muslim being a member of the EDL could cause that person to have a conflict of intrests but it's not the BNP so lets see how it goes.

Sam F, i've decided to ignore you because I think you are a troll.

...and the EDL have growing support because they highlight fears that mainstream political parties continue to ignore.

Before I'm strung up from a lampost, I'll be fighting until my dying breath any radical religious zealots that are intent on taking away hard fought for democratic freedoms, we presently enjoy in Britain.

Radical Islam Jay, same as many are opposed to extremists in other religions too, we only have to look over the "Pond" to get an idea or two (I'm sure our Colonial cousins could better inform us) plus we do have our own home grown bigots & defectives, NI & certain elements in Scotland spring to mind, the sorry thing about it all is that it's done & proclaimed under the guise of "Religion", seems atheism & agnosticism aren't such bad calls after all.

I would suggest a Freudian slip on Baggys part in this instance. Or do you see people with strong views & opinions as racists ? If so then it raises a rather interesting juxtaposition. Since you feel strongly about the views of someone else & your views are strongly opposed & divergent to theirs, doesn't that then make you a racist to all intents & purposes ?

Quote:

Once more the condemnation of someone as a racist in light of their views & opinions ! Below the definition of racism :-

racism [ˈreɪsɪzəm], racialism [ˈreɪʃəˌlɪzəm]n1. (Sociology) the belief that races have distinctive cultural characteristics determined by hereditary factors and that this endows some races with an intrinsic superiority over others
2. (Sociology) abusive or aggressive behaviour towards members of another race on the basis of such a beliefracist , racialist n & adj

Now as far as I can see the above has not been specific in posts by Baggy, so I would think your remarks & assumptions may not be entirely accurate. Ergo, you're approaching the issue from a pre-determined view point & with a specific mind set, thereby not allowing for reasoned argument & a reliance on typical "anti" rhetoric which hinders any form of balanced dialogue.

And there we have the crux of the problem ! If these limited views (within this forum) are a reflection on the broader Society as a whole then surely it is no wonder the levels of resentment & alienation, felt throughout the populace (irrespective of race, religion, ethnicity, origin & so-forth) is in such an inflammatory state & the longer the situation persists, the more embittered & embattled the relevant sides will become & the cries of racist certainly won't help alleviate the whole sorry mess ! So the EDL & their counter-parties, love them or loathe them are in their way raising awareness of the underlying tensions, that without rectification will lead to much greater problems.

Having just read the following article & the comments we see again what is mentioned above, just because people have vastly differing views especially upon this particular subject (excessive immigration) does this make Cameron a racist ?

PM claims immigration is wrecking communities - UK Politics, UK - The Independent

No he's talking sense, the Open Door immigration policy doesn't work, (2 million since 1997) controlled migration is the only answer, why let in every Tom Dick and Abdul in, when the infrastructure is bursting at the seems, when the only thing for immigrants is Social Security, with little prospect of work, except for people with skills, so why add to the countries problems at a time when things are tight for the indigenous population

if cameron is serious about this a good way to deter scroungers and those that go abroad to marry so they can bring more back with them will be to pass laws that deny imigrants access to benefits and free nhs treatment.Lets see how appealing teh UK is to come to when those two luxuries are denied. If people genuinly want to come here to contribute they wont step off the boat or plane with tehir hand held out

Well at least he's talking about it, Blair and Brown opened the gates and let all and sundry through, without even a thought of how it would affect schools NHS housing and the huge handout bill, no they just sent Jack Straw down to Dover to meet and greet, and point them in the way for the nearest DHSS office

Enoch Powell's speech was about "blackmen" no mention of east europeans or asians.. it was totally colour predudice.
What happend to the Lib-Dem manifesto that included an amnesty for all illegall immigrants that had lived here for over ten years?.. I did not agree with it but all of a sudden it's gone.
Cameron yaps on about controlling illegals at the same time he makes massive cuts in the border control police.. the border control these don't just run around in speedboats.. they are active in finding illegals in work places and those claiming benifits and yet the tories cut the workforce.. Cameron and his mob are spinning ..and digging this country into a deeper hole than we were in 2yrs ago.

i agree wi most of that, but disagree wi yer view on Powells speech, whilst these days it would be viewed by many as colour prejudice, that was a different era, don't forget Powell was a guy who went oer to the Caribbean in the 50s, inviting em to come oer, fer work on london buses/underground etc, was very few eastern europeans back then, apart from those who settled after WW2 n integrated, His speech was all about - we are reaching the limit, saturation etc, that was 40 odd yrs ago, it seems funny its taken that long fer the penny to drop! nowt to do wi colour prejudice, more to do wi common sense.
