Just take a minute......

Please just take a minute to look at this.

YouTube - The Power of Words

It was sent to me yesterday, I think it is lovely.....too lovely not to share.
So just take minute out of your busy life and watch it. Please.

What a beautiful little film, so much so in fact that by the time I'd taken in the ending properly I'd forgotten who it was advertising.

Still, it's given me food for thought.

Re: Just take a minute......

Ken, I like it and thought it was relevant to what sometimes gets posted on here....sometimes there are acrimonious postings purely because someone has not considered the impact that their words might have.........and I include myself in this...of course we are all human.
It made me think....and I felt it was good enough to share even though it is some sort of advertising.
It is good advertising because it does what it sets out to do....and that is to consider how you are sending your message.

thought provoking.

Re: Just take a minute......

I am just waiting for some cynical person to post the question......'If he is blind...who wrote his sign?'.......and the answer is......does it matter?

Oh hek, Margaret, brought a tear to my eyes that one.

Re: Just take a minute......

Yes Cashy.......I think we travel through life unaware of our impact on the lives of others.

Margaret Pilkington 01-05-2011 10:43

Re: Just take a minute......

Kate, you aren't the first one to admit to that.
It is poignant.....on a lot of levels.
One of which I have mentioned in the previous post, but another one is, that we take for granted so many things that we should be thankful for.

I thought this thread was going to sink like a brick budgie.
Glad it has had some attention.

Cracking piece of advertising. It certainly worked for me, as I went and had a shufty at Purple Feather's website. I might even send off for their top ten copywriting tips and find out where I've been going wrong for the last 40 years! ;)

Re: Just take a minute......

So I have done some good then Mr H.:)

Re: Just take a minute......

Yes indeed, Margaret, although probably a bit late in the day for me. Must admit, I wish I'd thought of it!

Re: Just take a minute......

It can only be too late when you are dead:)
Unless of course you mean ........too late to benefit from the commercial angle of this ideal.......but it can be applied to every aspect of life...can it not?

Too late to benefit from Purple Feathers' top ten copywriting tips. If I'd known about them in 1972, I might be creative director at J.Walter Thompson New York by now. Then, again, maybe not... ;)

Be assured Steve, that you are where you are supposed to be......make of that, what you will.
I'm feeling phllosophical today.

Re: Just take a minute......

I've always enjoyed the diversity of the English Language & its words, the subtle nuances & inflections in use can turn a phrase so that it may mean many things. Words that we choose can empower us & give life, vision & vibrancy to pretty much anything when used well & the clip quite aptly reinforces this.

Subtle, engaging, captivating, time perhaps for a little introspection ? Thank you. :)

You are welcome. It is certainly thought provoking, that little clip.

Margaret, that was so touching I had to play it again as I hadn't registered the advert at the end! Words matter.

Margaret Pilkington 01-05-2011 20:03

Re: Just take a minute......

They do indeed Gordon.......and it isn't just what we say that impacts, it is how we say it.
I am glad you found in inspiring.

Re: Just take a minute......

I really do think we need to take into consideration the words we use everyday and to think that we could well be hurting someone with those same words, this also goes for some actions or even inactions

Please think before doing or even not doing something

thanks marg for posting this

Margaret Pilkington 02-05-2011 07:59

Re: Just take a minute......

You're Welcome H.R.
We forget that words can be as sharp as little daggers....except they don't cut our skin and make us bleed.......they cut our psyche and allow our innermost self to leak away. They are hard to forget......they rattle round in our consciousness and come back over and over again.

I am sure we can all think of a time when we have been told something which has hurt us more than we care to admit....or we ourselves have said something that we wish we had never said....and we know that we have done it with only one intent.......to hurt...to wound.

However, the little clip is about seeing things differently....and using words to portray something in a different light.
If it has made just one person think.......then I am glad I posted it.
Thankyou for all your positive responses.

I think it's made quite a few think .

Words can build up , but they can also destroy .

Thanks for posting it .
