Fallout Friday

The Thursday night election results warrant a new thread. Just to start us off, some comments I've heard tonight, along with their REAL meanings!

“He didn’t get his message across” He was a duff councillor who deserved all he got.
“It’s been a tough night” Our party has been decimated
“The Coalition is a Five Year Deal” Expect a General Election next year
“We’ve got 4 years to put things right!” Definitely expect a General Election next year
We fought hard, but it wasn’t our night!” Nick Clegg OUT!
“Bring On The General Election!” Let’s hope there isn’t a general election in the next three years or we are in the sh*t
“The result doesn’t refect the quality of the councillors” The result reflects EXACTLY the quality of the councillors.
“Where there have been good Liberal Democrat councillors, we’ve done well tonight!” We’ve been annihilated!
“I’m happy to be fighting from the Opposition benches!” I’ve got a job interview on Monday!
He’s done a fantastic job for the Party” He has to go.
“He was a hard working councillor who didn’t deserve that treatment” Who?

“The night is young, but we are confident” I just walked into the count and they’ve stopped counting our votes and started weighing them!

We're in, we're in, we're in with a triumphant win, sixty XXXX are in with us AND we know where we are (and where we are going)!

Scotland - disaster for Labour .
Wales - good for Labour

As you say , Jaysay , neither Labour nor the Conservatives have had much impact on the results so far in England . There's not much between them at the moment .

For the Lib/Dems the result is a disaster , and when the Referendum results are declared , I wonder what plotting will be taking place in the Lib/Dem ranks .

If the Telegraph website is accurate , Miles Parkinson said that the Hyndburn win for Labour was a landslide  .

He is also quoted as saying that it was a reaction to coalition cuts nationally .
So much for it being about local issues  .

Never realised that local election day was ever about local issues JCB, and I was involved in politics for over 40 years, there's only one thing for sure its the dirtiest game you can ever be involved in believe me, I should know I was on the receiving end for 15 years from Labours dirty tricks brigade (oh yes they have one believe me) no matter what they try to purvey to the public

Quoted for truth. He was a reckless and irresponsible leader. Proven on wasted money spent on a market hall, all ready clearly not working. Shutting toilets, taking credit for saving a care home and in the run up to the election, flashing the cash in must win wards.

Mr.Moss has made it quite clear he wants clear transparency between the council and the electorate. He has stood his ground on that matter, whilst continually been told, to hush up. He set out what he wanted to achieve, made himself approachable and would try and find answers to peoples questions. His approach has worked, well it's rubbed off on his colleagues;)

All the best new council:alright:

I also remember somebody else saying they wanted total transparency whilst in opposition, but it didn't quite work out that way when in power, just a thought:rolleyes:

John, we can't afford any dirty tricks. The electorate have become much more savvy since the expenses scandal and seem to be far more adept at spotting when someone is full of it, something which I welcome as there is no place for it in Hyndburn.

Without wanting to sound hurtful, from what I can gather it's been a long time since you've been involved with local politics in any detail and the council is more or less a completely different landscape in the way it is made up. I'm sure dirty tricks have gone on in the past from Labour's side as they have done in abundance from the Conservative side but those days really do need to come to an end and none of my team see any merit in playing that game.

Have a word with Peter and the boys about dirty tricks. Two days before the election a little card went through the doors of Rishton households stating that Labour would look to car parking charges as a stealth tax. That was laid on the table as a passing thought over 12 years ago and has never been mentioned since because it was a terrible idea. If dragging up ancient discussions is the best thing they could throw at us to win an election it proves how little they actually did in each ward.

We have a new council and a new beginning. Don't be afraid of talking to us if you have ideas and comments.
