Who are you?

Since our lives will now be influenced by one man, to a lesser or greater extent, but directly probably more so, day to day, than by Graham Jones, I have only one question.

Miles Parkinson, who are you?

Compared with the last leader of H.B.C., he's very, very low profile. Keeping his light so far under his bushel, that it's almost invisible.

Not that massive publicity makes you necessarily a good, or an effective politican, but it would be nice to know more about who's holding our collective purse strings.

All I know, from asking people who know him, is he's very nice.

If I remember rightly, he also looks a bit like the Millibands' other brother.

Anyone care to shed any light on him as a person/politican?

He could even join us here on Accy Web, to tell us himself.

I believe TheLeadersOfficeHBC username is now up for grabs.

I wouldn't expect to see Miles on here anytime soon, it isn't really his style. He doesn't use Facebook either as far as I'm aware. However, what I will stake my reputation on is that he will certainly not post on here under an ego-massaging pseudonym in the third person whilst issuing propoganda dictat through a court scribe to proclaim his 'good news'.

Contrary to popular Conservative belief, myself and the other Labour members are unlikely to disappear from the forum although posting may become slightly less prolific due to a massive increase in work. The contact details of every councillor are on the HBC website though so if you want something answering please get in touch.

Re: Who are you?

Miles is an extremely talented and committed councillor and has been a member of Hyndburn Council since the mid 90's and a county councillor since 2005.
His style as a politician could not be more different to PB's, he can get his point across without trying to ridicule and demean his opponents. He is deeply committed both to the Labour Party and the people of Hyndburn.
I have had the pleasure of witnessing over the years him grow in stature as a politician, he is also extremely loyal to his colleagues and friends and is not afraid to listen to other peoples opinions. It was Miles who persuaded me to become a councillor and he has helped me on numerous occasions over the last 3 years and I could not have done the job without his continuing encouragement and support.

I have met Miles Parkinson on a couple of occasions, when he was helping sort out a neighbourhood issue.
I have to say that he was a gentleman, helpful, polite, understanding and down to earth.
I felt fully confident that he would do everything he could to help out......what more could you want for the leader of the council.(I don't care what colour banner this man travels under, as long as he is up to the job......and from whay I saw of him...he is)

Thank you for the posts so far.

Good to hear what people think.

Especially from people whose judgement I respect.

Nice to share these things openly.

I usually have to p.m. Claytonender, when needing to know what makes someone ticks, who she knows, and I don't.

:D

I've never actually met the chap but from what I've heard he's decent guy and a good councillor, best of luck to him, and in the words of Hughie Green I mean that most sincerely folks;)

Re: Who are you?

He seems to be the sort of man who quietly gets on with things.

I have always been highly suspicious of those in power who constantly tell you what great things they have done.
I once worked for a boss like that, everything that was done well was trumpeted from the rooftops as this persons own work, when in actual fact it was the work of others who did the graft while this person took the kudos.

Those who need to have their ego massaged frequently do things for the wrong reason.....They do them, not for the good of the community, but so that they can have their picture in the paper.
A bit sad really, to be so insecure in who you are.

Miles does not strike me as that sort of person.

When I knew Miles he was a fireman, so he's used to hearing people telling him to go to blazes.

That's the only thing I can find on him, Gynn .. part time. Does he still do this, does he have a full time job ?

Will he have to rush out of meetings if he gets the call ? :D

Don't you go phoning him.

Saying you're in distress, because your pussy's stuck up a tree.

I've met him once, Accy carnival when my daughter was Head Girl at Peel Park and had to represent the School. He seems very down to earth and no airs and graces, doesn't talk down to people and I'm sure he will do a great job!

Hahaha, Garinda ... would mention the 'burning bush', but we have gone down that road before.

Well, it looks like the Redeemer cometh.. best of luck anyway, Miles.
