Canada ... putting fun into politics.

Fun stuff can happen when the voters get real p'od NDP candidate Ruth Ellen Brosseau wins Quebec riding despite trip to Las Vegas and weak French | Canada Politics - Yahoo! News When the voters decide to punish a party. When they don't give a damn who is elected as long as it isn't the same old, same old, things like this can happen. So what if she took a vacation to Vegas in the middle of the campaign. So what if she has never set foot in the riding she won. So what if she can't speak French, even though she represents a riding which is 100% Francophone. The voters did not want any of the alternatives; so, they voted NDP, not giving a flying-you-know-what about who the candidate was.:alright: Democracy sometimes works in weird ways.

Yes she can. But only in one of our official languages.;) The citoyens of la belle province seem to have decided that the Bloc Quebecois has had its day. They didn't trust the Tories ... smart folks ... and they have had enough of the Liberals; so, being left of center, they voted for the NDP. Didn't matter who the candidate was. Before the general election, the NDP held one seat in Quebec. Off the top of my head (I'm too lazy and stoned to google), they won about 60 Quebec seats in the recent election. Most of the winners were, to say the least, surprised to win. But democracy is alive and well in Quebec.:alright: Vive le Quebec:dancedog:

Absolutely stunning, good ol' Cannuks, if you're going to put in a protest vote do it in style ! :D Best of luck to the girl, from Pubs to Politics, as good a grounding as any, in fact probably better as the amount of Political debate that happens in Pubs should be quite useful. ;)

Well, Ms. Brosseau fianlly visited the riding she was elected to represent.:alright: Turns out she does speak a little French, which would seem to be a necessary qualification in a riding where French is the first language of 98% of the inhabitants. The good folks of Berthier-Maskinonge who elected her are basking in the media coverage of the area, and it appears that they gave her a great welcome. I have the feeling she will probably make a damn fine MP.

I think that the message going out to politicians over here is that, unless they do the job that folks elected them to do, and to do it well, there are no safe seats.

Canadians have sent this message before. In the 1993 general election, the tories lost 149 seats:eek:, electing only 2 members:alright: This year, the voters of Canada sent the politicians a little reminder of what they can do when peed off.
