Referendum Hyndburn ?

Hyndburn was one of the many 'creations' back in 1974 that were imposed without any say or reference to the local populace. Thamesdown was another that was imposed on Swindon when the town's area increased to take in some surrounding villages. When they got the chance back in 1997 they became Swindon once again. Do you think the people of Hyndburn would like to revert to being run by an Accrington Borough Council rather than Hyndburn ?

A previous administration did toy with a name change.

It would cost a lot of money, at a time we are about to see deaconian cuts.

Also, none of us use the name.

We all say we are from the respective towns that make up Hyndburn.

I have no great attachment to the name, like many others, but since I never use the it, I couldn't care less what the civic administration calls itself.

If I was unlucky enough to be from Swindon, I think I'd prefer people it, if people didn't know where I was from.

;)

I never quite understood why back in 73 they didn't apply to post office to have Hyndburn included in the address, after all if you live in Haslingden Your addres is say: 21 some street, Haslingden, Rossendale Lancashire, works for them
