Morrisons new store in Accrington
Well, I have just looked in the "search engine" and cant find owt about the new store on Accyweb, so here goes.
The old NETTO store near Home Bargains is to become a Morrisons. Think most of us knew this, but its now got the opening date on view - MONDAY 6th June, 2011. |
Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
I mentioned this a few months back, i think it will be a great move for Morrisons, i live near Tesco in Blackburn but i don't like the place, i always get the bus to town and go to Morrisons, i think they should have built a big one of those instead of the crappy Tesco that the built

Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
good
Morrison's chicken meat doesn't look like it died from drug abuse for starters like asdas does so it will be good to have better quality food closer to home :) |
Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
Don't know how true it is, but I have heard on the grapvine (rumour mill) that the failing carpet place next door to the current Netto store is to close, enabling the two buildings to combine and form a foyer/ entrance into the new Morrisons Store. Sounds like a good idea to me if the rumour is correct.

Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington

Mentioned on this thread that they had applied for signage (granted), and can see the site plans, as they stand at the moment. Thanks for letting us know re. opening date: Application No:11/11/0134Registration Date:06 Apr 2011Location:EASTGATE RETAIL PARK EASTGATE ACCRINGTON BB5 6PWDevelopment:Advertisement application: Display of 2 No illuminated signs for Morrisons Case File |

Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
I wonder what will happen to the Iceland store in the Arndale, should Morrison's succeed in buying the chain? For those of you who are not aware, Iceland is owned by a bankrupt Icelandic bank that is having to dispose of it's assets; the bidding process starts shortly but Morrison's have already appointed financial advisors and are first off the block. It could of course, go to ASDA, Sainsbury's or Tesco's or even a third party and the retail estate split up; even the brand name could be kept.
|
Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
The sale of a majority stake in frozen food retailer Iceland could spark an auction for the whole chain.
The Resolution Committee of failed Icelandic bank Landsbanki is appointing investment banking advisers to sell its majority 67 per cent holding in the supermarket. The 750-store portfolio, worth between £1.7 billion and £2 billion, is expected to attract plenty of interest from rival supermarket chains and private equity outfits alike. If the auction of Iceland Foods goes ahead, Wm Morrison - the UK’s fourth biggest food retailer and currently building a chain of convenience stores - is expected to examine the properties as a potential acquisition. Potential auction of Iceland Foods attracts supermarket rivals |
Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
Maybe bee knows that morrisons moving all their signage trolleys and shelving into the store is just a front to create an elaborate cover for PB to make a come back, and make a bid for world domination. Having tried to use a cafe to influence the people of accrington, he has now used his considerable wicked mind to concoct a plan to use the shopping habits of the voters to sway their political leanings, you just never know his evil knows no bounds:dflam::dflam::dflam::rolleyes::D:D:D

Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
had a nosey at the new Morrisons yesterday, we thought was too compact, big queues at few tills, so thought sod it n never went in.
|
Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
I have now ventured into the Morrisons, thought the same as Cashy it is too compact. They have tried to cram in as much as possible! It were pretty quiet when we went in but wouldnt bother if it looked busy from the outside as I would just get shopping rage!!
I also dont understand why they have put the Newspapers/Mags past the tills? You pay for your shopping and then if you do want a paper you would have to pay for it at the fag till or hold the queue up while you pick! Recieved vouchers in the post yesterday though for the next few weeks spend £20 and get a fiver off so will prob be going again as I cant turn away free shopping! :D |

I beleive Tesco's are accepting the Morrisons vouchers. :D:D

Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
Lets hope ASDA do too!!!!
|
Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
We went in on the opening day(himself insisted...I would have preferred not to go in) and found it to be a bit 'snug'........It is too small, it is in the wrong place and there are already enough supermarkets in the town.
|
Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
Asda aint accepting Tesco or Morrisons I have asked :(
Will ask at Tesco tomorrow about them accepting Morrisons ones when I go do me "big" shop! |
Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
I heard a check out person in Tesco's telling someone they were accepting Morrisons vouchers.
|
Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
Thats ok then just have to go to one place!!
|
Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
Called in to morrisons today as needed some coffee, what a load of rubbish, overpriced crap, walked in and out within 3 minutes, then off to good old Asda, I wont be bothering with Morrisons again.
|
Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
Although i live near Tesco in Blackburn i always shop at Morrisons, we went to have a look at the new one in Accy last week and to me it is just a smaller version of the Blackburn store, i got everything i needed from it and was happy, the prices are the same, the meat is as cheap, i liked it, it's cute, we'll be going again
|
Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
ive got vouchers as well heth ... they came with this weeks citizen .... though i probably wont use them ....
|
Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
Tried the new Morrisons last week, hardly room to move properly, most prices were same as Asda, but in smaller packets, butter & cheese was very expensive. I'll stick with Aldi & Asda.

Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
I went in the Morrisons on friday, it's pretty much on my way home and is cheaper than my local Spar, I thought it served it's purpose and my dad was well suited with his bottle of Grants for a tenner! I'll be using it again.

I wonder what will happen to the Thornton's shop in the Arndale. the unit has got to be a lease but I can't but I can't see anyone renewing it as a franchaise. It's to small to be a pound shop.

Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
Thorntons are in the brown stuff and it ain't their chocolate, so they intend to gradually shut down their leased premises. It's the number one item on this morning's financial news.
|
Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
To be quite honest I use Thorntons a lot because they do plenty of Glutton free chocise, but I use the net to order 2 day delivery
|
Re: Morrisons new store in Accrington
Free choccies for gluttons, i'm off there right now. :D:D:D:D:D

I don't think there is a market for churches round here - they have demolished some in the last few years.
