Cheap phone calls
 

Just thought I would share this.
I needed to make a phone call to Spain.
Went to Post Office telephone web site to look up call charges. Found a reference to a web site named "Just Call", followed the instructions, and it showed I could call Spain for 1p per min.
The site even said they would not bill me, it would be on my own providers bill.
I've had thoughts since, is it for real, who pays for, & maintains that web site, if they don't charge you any thing.
Now awaiting my next telephone bill.

seems a bit odd if twas on the Post Office Telephone website.:confused: yeh would think they check advertisers?

I just checked the web site Retlaw and it seems you have to dial their access number first which is a 09.... number. My phone is barred from such numbers because they cost so much and usually they are to dodgy sites. Maybe they only charge you 1p but then BT will charge you another 25p per min, 75% of that goes to the other people.
Somebody please correct me if I am wrong but I got my info from a friend who until recently had a management consultants job with BT

The access number I had to dial was 0844 869 9900.
I've looked at the site since, and can't see an 09 number. Maybe it is some kind of rip off, thats why I'm waiting for the phone bill to arrive.

Just found my current bill on line, the number I rang in Spain shows no charge, I was only on for 28 seconds. The 0844 number is'nt on the bill any where.

If your friend in Spain has a computer, then use Skype, its free.

My Daughter lives in China and see uses that BG, now I have a web cam I'm going to start using it too, (didn't know there was a web cam on my new computer until my grand daughter pointed it out, cheeky bloody kids:D)so I can see her as well as talk to her:mosher:

Wasn't a friend it was a relative, hence the 28 second phone call.
What the eck is Skype, never eard uv id.

Even if your friend does not have a computer you can buy skype credit to dial land lines at a minimal charge say less tha 2pence per min.

Had a sneck, no way am I subscribinng to that, they want me to buy credits, I don't enter credit card details into any computer.

dunno retlaw i dont use it fer phone calls, just messages to me mate in spain, which costs nowt.

I looked at different countries on the web site Retlaw and I found a few with the 0845 number but a lot of others had different numbers and some rates were as high as 150p per minute.

Now that you have your cheap call access number it's as easy as 1,2,3!

Dial the JustCall access number for the country you want to call.
When prompted dial 00 then the country code then the number you want to call.
You will be connected.

That is a direct copy from the Just Call web site.

Maybe I am reading it wrong but if you got a good deal then that's what it is all about, I am glad somebody has some good deal. I have Skype for some calls with video cam and all my UK calls are on the All day rate with BT.

Big difference from the days of the lad on the BSA delivering telegrams or the button A and B in the red telephone boxes.
