Accrington Carnival
What are peoples views about todays carnival
I didn't see the procession as I had to be at the College - How many floats /groups participated? The College seemed ok as a venue although the layout of the stalls could have been better thoughtout as some were hidden away rather than being on the main thoroughfair Personally I felt the publicity for the event was poor particularly in the Accrington Observer. 20 years ago the carnival would have been given a centre spread in the Observer with details of the procession route and a timetable of events at the carnival field. It's clearly a much more local event now but I can recall when motor cycle display teams and parachutists were the major attractions Well done to the various community stalls at the carnival it's good to see so many varied clubs advertising their clubs and interests Thanks also to the Lions and the participants as clearly a lot of hardwork goes into the event with the proceeds going to local charities |
Re: Accrington Carnival

Re: Accrington Carnival
It was crap, nothing like it was when i wa growing up, no fancy floats, just wagons that hadn't had much effort put into them, i remember once when i was a kid they had an Accrington bus completely covered in paper carnations, it was very impressive, they always had the steel drums playing, there has been nothing like that for years now, i'd say the only one that made an effort this year where the Accy Stanley lot......i'm sure others did too but thats the only one that caught my eye

Re: Accrington Carnival
Daughter and her friends went and they enjoyed it. I got as far as the entrance and decided it was too hectic and loud for me...must be getting old!

Re: Accrington Carnival
Took my daughter today and she really enjoyed it. We didnt see the floats etc but ventured up sandy lane about 1pm to have a look around. 2.50 each me and mrs to get in and a quid for the nipper. Went down to the fairground area first ride 2 quid merry go round, 2nd 1.50 tea cups, 3rd 4 quid strapped in trampoline! grab a duck 2.50 (please dont get a gold fish) 4th 2 quid each for the dodgems. Then down to the fields/lane/carpark another grab a duck 1 quid, face paint 2 quid, trampoline 2 quid, inflatable climb/slide 2 quid, hold an owl 1 quid donation. I thought it was better than i was expecting. The daughter really enjoyed herself and to me thats what matters even if it was 'get your money out'. What isnt these days though apart from the walk up coppice or a paddle and a quick go on a toy train at edisford bridge. Well done Lions.

Re: Accrington Carnival
I shall not be attending another it was very poor the floats had hardly any effort put in to them nothing like when I was younger and they had paper flowers all over the alloys and were really well decorated the only float that got my attention was the 107 The Bee float and that wasn't as good as the old standards. Roads weren't closed till last minute no one at bottom of Whalley Road stopping traffic was very poorly organised. Not enough people and not enough variation in the procession more or less all floats or cheerleaders nothing like the good old days where you got carrier bags handed out full of bits and pieces like pens stickers etc that made the kids happy and the odd float throwing sweets in to the crowd and kelloggs cereal boxes thats what carnivals should be like enjoyable. As for the fair it was good but I think to charge £2.00 for big rides is a good deal but then to also charge £2.00 for baby rides is a joke think next year needs planning in advance and more effort puttin in to it
