Re: Parliamentary Boundary Change

The offical Conservative amendment to the proposed changes recommended by the Boundary Commission.

Which supports the local Great Harwood councillors, who wish to be in the Ribble Valley, and would see the borough of Hyndburn split over three constituencies.

Ribble Valley
Great Harwood (Netherton and Overton)
Altham

Darwen and Haslingden
Rishton
Oswaldtwistle (St Andrews, St Oswalds and Immanuel)
Church
Baxenden
Clayton-le-Moors

Burnley and Accrington
Barnfield
Central
Spring Hill
Huncoat
Milnshaw

Where's that come from Rindi? I know Great Harwood would love to be reunited with Ribble Valley as they were dragged kicking and screaming into Hyndburn in the first place.

It's from the Conservative party's recommended changes to the Boundary Commission report.

It's a big download, and I couldn't work out to attach it, so just copy and pasted the bit about Hyndburn being split into three constituencies.

If I can fathom how to attach it I will.

The Harwood councillors apart, who are in favour of being attached to the Ribble Valley, as far as I understand what Tory H.Q. in London recommend, isn't supported by the majority of Conservative councillors at H.B.C

Oh thanks for the clarification Rindi, I thought you meant that these changes had been endorsed by the local party, which I though was strange, apart from Gt Harwood that is

No, it's the national Conservative party.

It was sent as an attachment from someone on the Facebook campaign group.

I've asked for a link so l can give it here, as I couldn't work out how to attach the file to my post.

Re: Parliamentary Boundary Change

There's soon to be an overview and scrutiny meeting at Scaitcliffe House, in which each political party's proposals, and amendments to the Boundary Commission's report will be discussed.

On the link are downloads of each party's proposed ideas, regarding the future of the Hyndburn consituency.

Communities and Wellbeing Overview and Scrutiny Committee

This meeting is a cross party one, and is open to members of the public.

Wednesday, 2nd November.
Scaitcliffe House.
Ormerod St.,
Accrington.
BB5 9SA.

The time of the meeting I think is 7.30 pm.
(Hopefully someone will correct me if this is the wrong start time.)

We've been deemed an important enough as an area to warrant having our own M.P. since 1885.

It's so important for this area that we continue having our own dedicated Member of Parliament.

Come to the meeting, join the Facebook group, support the Observer's campaign.

We'll all suffer if we end up tacked on to two, or three, other constituencies.

Groove has never voted in his life. He thinks his vote is'nt going to make a difference to the outcome, and if it did the winning party would be just as useless as the others. Groove is disillusioned with politics and life in general.

Re: Parliamentary Boundary Change

H.B.C.'s Communities and Wellbeing Overview and Scrutiny Committee have looked at proposals from all three political parties, with their own plans for our constituency, following the Boundary Commission's report.

The cross-party committee have five proposals, after considering the various options put forward, which are due to be discussed at the Full Council meeting this Thursday, 10th November.

The meeting is open to the public and starts at 7 p.m., at Accrington Town Hall.

I think it would be good for supporters of the campaign to save our constituency, to attend if they can, to show the council we support the work they're doing to try and keep Hyndburn as a constituency, in it's own right.

And thus keeping our own MP who supports local people;)

I'm not going to cut my nose off, to spite my face.

I'm fighting to keep 'our' constitueny.

Whoever we have decided to represent that constituency, at the moment, is irrelevant.

;)
