Campaign for the Arndale Clock to be reinstalled

Hi all

How'bout we get up a campaign for the clock to be reinstalled somewhere in Accrington and get it to the Observer just before Friday 8th July.

Remember the campaign we set up in 2004, we saved the clock and made it to the front page of the Observer!

So why don't we set up a new campaign to have it reinstalled somewhere in Accy!.

A better idea would be to stick that Gladys on a pole in Broadway, then he/she could shout out the time, and point out which shops have closed.

Hey Bee...am I right in thinking you're still in Japan?

If so and if we can't save the clock - what about exporting it to Japan? It could be stuck up next door to the old nuclear power plant that exploded a few months ago after the big wave came in.

It could even have a plaque on it...'Presented to the people of Japan, by Councillor Peter Britcliffe, with fraternal greetings from another disaster area'.

You never know, Accy could get a Su Doku car plant in return.

Get on to it, Bee.

Sorry -had to vote "no", i never liked it particularly... surely it must have some value -either auctioned off or just as scrap if no-one wants to buy it.

Obviously if mobertol says he didn't like it, not EVERYONE liked it.

Almost 50% of the poll you started seems to indicate that not EVERYONE liked it.

I liked it, but I don't think it has a hope in hell of ever getting restored or put anywhere now that you have attached yourself to the cause.

P.S. I doubt very much that it was made of bronze.

The least of Accrington centre's problems at the moment is the continued existence of some soddin' old clock. Scrap it and forget about it!

Just to set the record straight Less-I am "she"! Is my username too masculine? (Probably as it's from our e-mail address which uses my husbands name! Ive always used it as i have a rotten memory for usernames and passwords...mind you if i used my own name it would be Dibertol which looks a bit like some kind of medication....)
:dummy:As to the Arndale clock -i remember taking my son to see it the first time we were over in Accy after the new Arndale centre had opened and he howled and thought it was scary -perhaps if he saw it now as a 23 yr old he'd like it ...but i still dn't -sorry Bee!

Well I'm not too overfussed as to what sex you are, it won't make any difference to me.
I can't see that one little genralisation from me should cause you to react with such a long, laborious and dare I say, uninteresting explanation.

Perhaps had I bothered to look up you gender I could have prevented such a major, (to you), mistake.
Rest assured now that you have revealed all to me I will not doubt that you are most definately female.:D
Yes, it does sound like a drug, and no doubt if I could chase off this indifference I would find it to be some form of sleeping draft.:p

It may have ruffled your feathers that I used the term he instead of she, I just don't understand why you thought it of major importance.

Not at all -as i'm quite new to the forum (having been off it for a long time!) I thought I'd point out the fact, however in the virtual domain i suppose it is of little import...
Although with respect to the clock (back on thread) i suspect that perhaps more men would like it as it is sort of mechanical/engineering type art.

Ah yes a mechanical/engineering type piece of art, maybe that is why another of your sex has to start a thread about ironing shirts?

http://www.accringtonweb.com/forum/f...tml#post926423

Perhaps if the humble smoothing iron was classed as mechanical/engineering art, it would excuse all those of your gender that seem unable & unwilling to operate one.

Love the smiley...as to the "art" of ironing I am an expert having 3 men in my household -luckily not many shirts as they can be fiddly My husband and son work in farming so it's mainly overalls and jeans!! My dad is an expert on ironing - learned during his years military service, but then he is an retired engineer too..

Practice what you preach you old witch, (oops that lisp of mine can't pronounce my B's today), not sticking to your principles as usual, just can't leave me on your ignore list, you are weak and always have to look, then give ill-informed advice.

I bow to your experience Margaret and feel i begin to know you though your various forum posts. Fear not-I am am well-known tamer of Rottweillers and begin to feel some kind of feeling (mentally, of course) with them..you have to learn not to fear them and know where to scratch their itches etc in order to befriend them...:dancedog:

Just been having a look on Google Images, and came across this. Reminded me what a shame its STILL under the Arndale centre, rotting away!

Google Image Result for http://www.andyplant.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/Accrington-closed.jpg

Scroll down underneath the film showing the clock, there are some smashing photos as well.
