BBC News - Amy Winehouse found dead, aged 27

sad news for her family and her friends ...

Boeing Guy 23-07-2011 17:25

re: R.I.P. Amy Winehouse

Not surprised really, sad though it is, I feel the murder of 95 inocent people, some if them teenagers, by a Nazi, more upsetting than that of a young lady who enjoyed illegal drugs on a daily basis.
I personally was not a big fan of her music, but she will get immortality now, just like Jimi Hendrix, Janice Joplin, Karen Carpenter, Jim Morrison etc
Shouldn't this be in the music thread?

Romps 23-07-2011 17:29

re: R.I.P. Amy Winehouse

A great shame, phenomenal talent. In my opinion she should not be placed upon this 'role model' pedastal that the press and the rest of her industry seem to think she deserves. Friends, family and fans have lost a loved one and that's very sad. A lonely life stardom may be, but it doesn’t have to be, each one of us has choices and options.

Agree with you on this one 100% Shaz.

We do not know the full truth only what we read in the papers in the past and cannot judge based on "stories".

RIP Amy

We now know how those stories came about, illegal message interception and very dodgy investigators, they are probably more accurate than we thought at the time.

Its always sad when someone dies so young.

No big shock, she made her choices. She had a decent voice and could have made a big success of herself, but as people have said addictions bad news. I won't be shedding any tears for her, and hope that no-one glorifies her for joining the 27 Club. Waste of a young life, waste of a potential talent.:(

This is true, hon. Couldn't stand her music, but that's a generational thing. But I sure as hell won't be casting any stones at her lifestyle.

Spot on shaz, not a big surprise, but a loss to the music industry as well as her family n friends. thing is -" yeh can take n horse to water, but yeh can't make it drink." thats the tragedy many families have to deal with. R.I.P.

What a joke, people posting rip to a waste of space junkie, no-one made her take drugs, everyone knows the dangers of them, there's people out there who really deserve the use of the word sympathy starting with the innocent people slaughtered in Norway

It was always going to end in this manner sooner or later.
If she has died of a drug overdose whether it was intended or not, then my thoughts go out to her family....they will be the ones left dealing with the pain.

I didn't care for her music......but her death is a waste.

How the hell dare you make a posting like this? Yes we all feel for the families of those slaugthered in Norway but do you not make any connection? "Drugs" just might be the common factor but until you have walked a mile in a drug users and/ or their families shoes how can you judge? God help you all if you or a member of your family falls prey to the lure of drugs!!! Yes it can be beaten but with some of you as judge and jury it is little wonder with the comments sounded on here that drugs might win the day.

How dare you judge others? Maybe if you were to be in a position to judge ie a former drug addict or a member of their family you could comment. But as for talking about people as "waste of space junkies", I say "there but for the grace of god go I"

well said bernie, addiction has no bearing on upbringing or class of people, if someone close to the poster became n addict he would probably be very upset to hear such a comment.:(

Firstly I have been brought up well, and myself, siblings & the rest of my family are not stupid enough to get involved with drugs, I have found it very easy in the past to say NO when offered. Secondly in the job I do I do have the right to judge others, who the hell are you to tell me I cant? Oh sorry you have never judged anyone have you ??????? This jumped up floozy went into rehab more time than I have had hot dinners, firstly she shouldn't have got mixed up in drugs, secondly if she really wanted to kick the habit she wouldn't have walked out of rehab after just a few days, this was always going to happen, she's no-one else to blame but herself. So glad that you have been brought up "right" as you say.
Well done for that.

I have also been brought up as I believe in the right way but that doesnt make me this great person that can judge others without knowing them or thier life styles.

I have made choices that I have regretted but luckly I am not in the spot light or else you would prob judge me unfairly.

You will not change my mind on this subject, I have no time for people who want pity when it is all of their own doing, as Ive said before no-one made her take drugs, it has come as no surprise to anyone that she has died at a young age. It is the way of life that people judge, criticised, gossip, moan about others, we all do it, including you & Bernie, its what makes the world go round. (Heth I cannot say on here, but lets just say the people who know me will understand my comment)

I'm with you and Benie on this one. I don't believe I'm particularly religious but "Judge not, that ye be not judged" is more than appropriate in this case. We all screw up ... it's part of being human, comes with the territory. We don't need some deus ex computer to assume a holier-than-thou attitude.

I certainly will not be shedding any tears for her, It's the family I feel for, they are the ones that will suffer long after she has gone.

What does annoy me though is the celebrities are treated with different laws than the rest of society.

Why are more of them not arrested and made an example of, a stint is prison would probably do them more good than rehab.

And on the points of Judging, we all judge each other, its more down to whether we voice that judgement or not.

Heth, I think we all make judgements in our daily lives.....it is because we are human.

We see someone with a shaved head and think he might be a thug, when in actual fact he is having Chemotherapy for leukaemia.

We see young folks larking about and swearing and think that perhaps all young folk are like this.....when it isn't so.

We can't help it.
I didn't like Amy Winehouse's music, or her reported lifestyle(remember we swallow what the media feeds us).........and I know celebs don't particularly want to be role models for the youngsters growing up, but the fact is, they are, whether they want to be or not.......she was not a good role model.

I am sad for her family. It is they who bear the burden of pain now....and the 'if only's'.........her torment is over, theirs is just beginning.
I wish the media would leave them in peace to do their grieving privately.

I understand this Marg like I have posted before it isnt as black and white as it seems to some people.

Yes there are lots out there that screw the system for whatever they can get to try and get off drugs and dont succeed and are not referred to very nicly which is quite right.

There are also some people that have not done this and tried to sort thier problems out by them selves but are still getting tarred with the same brush.

You cannot come on here and post that people with a drugs related problems are all bad people and could have quite easily have said "No" to drugs, it aint as easy as that.

Until you have had the experience you cannot judge.

Quite right Margaret, even the god botherers make judgments by calling people sinners.
Even Heth is making judgements in her responses.
All those who die of drugs, after being cleared of the them in the past, deserve their fate. It's one way of tidying up the gene pool.

If your not judging any one, then what are you rabbiting on about then.
Typical female logic.

Thank you, Retlaw for putting this thread into perspective.

I note that tonight the street in which this woman lived is still mainly sealed off with police ‘Do Not Cross’ tape. It is not, as far as I am aware, a scene of crime. I therefore can only assume that it is due to restraining the grieving hordes of ‘hero’ worshippers who no doubt, are wailing tears and lighting candles or indulging in whatever is the latest fad to mourn the dead in this country’s celebrity obsessed culture.

That warped hysteria is reflected on this very website; there are two threads on the death of this druggie, and with a couple of exceptions, they all post some sort of sympathy note. Never mind that few (if any) ever met the stupid woman (I did, by the way, and my only impression was of an arrogant, ignorant brat), whatever the logic is behind this is beyond me. I would, however have thought that if there was to be significant postings about events outside Accy over this last weekend it would have been concerning Norway.

There is but one thread on this subject and that has received exactly ten posts. Now, it may well be that I have old fashioned values, but nevertheless I would have thought people are more prepared to extend sympathy to 80 innocent young people working towards bettering their country and society than some drug addicted rich bitch with pretensions to sing about how bad life is. I think that now is the time that those people who have stuck posts such as ‘R.I.P.Amy’ should hang their heads in shame; they are an absolute disgrace.

So Tealeaf you say that you have old fashioned values?

Is that why you have taken time to put such a long post on this thread telling people that have posted on here that they are a disgrace when you havent even posted on the thread about Norway?

Look at my avatar; I put that on on friday evening, as the news came through. As you are probably to stupid to know, I can tell you it is the Norwegian flag. I was, as they say, gobsmacked for words on friday evening and since then I have had only cursory time to look at this site.

The flag is a symbol which signifies, but is stronger than words, to the effect that 'We are all Norwegians Now'.

Why don't you now just go back to llistening to your Amy Whitearse records? No doubt you can take a sniff of some white powder while you're at it.

No need to make your post personal, dont worry I have reported it.

Yeah i know what flag it is and I thought that you would come back with something like this.
Seems you have time to keep coming back to this thread doesnt it? Shame you cant take a look at the Norway thread.

I have looked at the Norway thread.

1) I shall reiterate - the flag is the gesture of sympathy.

2) I shall post there when further evidence emerges of why Brevivik did it and what his links were.

3) Report what you want - do you think I really care? As they say, the truth sometimes hurts so maybe it's time for you to take an anadin and go to bed.

So are you suggesting that anyone who listens to her takes drugs? I don't care for her music, but I would not make the suggestion about her fans that you did. I like the Doors but have no intention of emulating the late Jim Morrison's drug habits. I like the Stones but would not emulate Keith Richards' previous drug habits.

I suspect I'm not the only one who has had friends that have died in thier 20's who used no drugs wether illegal or not..she is dead and I don't go along with this crap that she is any influence on anyone.

If she wanted to take drugs, thats no problem with me - she could easily afford them. I doubt that many of her followers, could, though and they no doubt are busy shooting up and sniffing up. They are the same characters who follow this lifestyle except unlike your beloved Ms Whinehouse, they don't have the dosh to pay for it - they have to resort to other means.

So next time you're on hols and return to find a visit from your drugged up neighbourhood burglar, please remember in between wondering where your Sony home cinema system has gone and clearing up the turds on your axminster carpet, thats it's all down to people like that wonderful woman, Amy.

Going back to my original question, why did you suggest someone on here should sniff white powder? My point was some of the comments on this thread have been nasty and personal. Is your idea of having a discussion or debate with someone is to win it by insulting them rather than by reasoned debate?

Could I respectfully suggest that you try and avoid getting emotional? I know it's late at night and probably way past your bedtime and far too late for you to get into a debate about what makes a good debate.

Therefore I suggest that you depart upstairs now and first thing tomorrow you get out a dictionary and look up rhetoric, logic, deduction, evidence, pathos, humour and a few other concepts that make a good discussion and then maybe come back on here tomorrow evening sometime. With a bit of luck, I may even be around to assist you.

On the "Norway" thread: I think Romps put it well in post #4, "Words fail me." I suspect many folks think that way. What can one say? Perhaps, it is easier to talk about Amy Winehouse because she was a notorious celeb, and, let's face it, her end was not unexpected. And I don't believe that anyone should be ashamed of wishing that a fellow human, one who had led a troubled life, should rest in peace. There are issues surrounding the massacre that will have to be considered and discussed. But now, in my opinion, is not the time.

Anyone who has to resort to personal insults or sarcasm in response to reasonable questions loses the argument. And your own sarcasm proves the point quite nicely.

Whilst not a fan of either her style music or her public persona, I feel that Amy was yet another victim of the many malign influences that confront today's youth, as perpetuated by the 'celebrity' culture. Sad, innit?

The druggie is dead I couldn't give a (beep) bout her, I believe u play with fire you get burnt, which is what happened to her today! Some of you for some reason care for this dead junkie that you never met, lets agree to disagree put it to bed, which is where I'm going now, and lets start a new thread on somet we all care about like the weather.

So what have you been wasting everyone's time for?
