Fire on Cannon Street? - Water Off

Anyone heard anything about a fire on Cannon Street?

Our water has gone off - and we've been told by UU that because of a fire on Cannon Street, that our water has been diverted to put it out - I suppose they've taken it from us - so that they don't upset those whose water was off last week!!!
(I live Burnley Rd/Queens Rd area)

Yeah I believe the old Barnes furniture store is on fire again. Hyndburn Community Volunteer and Resource Centre and New Era have both been evacuated as they are close enough for the fire to spread.

Thats a load of bull droppings from UU, I've never heard of water mains being diverted to put a fire out, and the fact your up on Queens Rd, makes it even more ficticious.
The water mains in Church St area vary between 6 - 12 inches, a stand pipe has only a 2 1/2 inch outlet, so even 4 stand pipes on a 6" main could still be supplied. Don't forget there is another supply not 10 lengths of hose away, on the corner of Cross St, "The River H"
UU want to get some new script writers.
Retlaw.

Retlaw.

I originally thought the real reason was due to the burst pipe/leak on Burnley Road/Eastgate Xroad and that they finally decided to fix it (been like that since @ least Monday) - caught a UU man taking photos of it....or maybe he was a secret Stobart Spotter taking photos of the E.S Truck at the lights!!

I reported that leak on the junction of Burnley Rd and Eastgate on Monday...we have driven past it every day to see that nothing was being done and water was still trickling away.

Hmmm...so a pie and a pint followed by a stroll onto the terraces doesn't interest you? Oh well, never mind.

Becoming a right chatterbox now, aren't you? ;)

Re: Fire on Cannon Street? - Water Off

Talking of loss of water- UU are supposed to be sending letters out to their customers who were without water for over 24 hours. Just wondering how long this will take as we haven't received owt yet.We were off for more than 30 hours- Spring Hill area. Luckily we dont have central heating so were able to fill buckets from the hot tap( which comes from a tank which fills the cistern for hot water) to flush the toilet. They say a £25 refund is to be awarded for the first 24 hours. Will believe it when i see it.

dont know if this will work, im trying to put a link on to the pictures on The Bridge Facebook page, if it doesn't work I apologise https://www.facebook.com/#!/media/set/?set=a.2189982552562.2111961.1337064595&type=3[/URL]

would appear unless you're logged into Facebook the above link doesn't work, how else can I upload a pick apart from clicking the link above which then asks for a URL ??

Looked to be a decent blaze when I was going to Pop club around 7pm, lots of smoke and visible high flames from Police Station end of Grange Lane.

From what it looked like when I walked past about 5pm yesterday, they are taking down the rear of the side nearest Cannon St which had no roof left . Don't think it's all coming down unfortunatley.

I reckon they must have to eventually demolish it sooner or later on H&S grounds alone never mind the fact it is an eyesore.

Point taken Jaysay.Though with the building being near a future 'improvement area'I would hope something is done soon.

There are those people that think these old buildings be conserved for posterity (aka Rhyddings Mill) yet don't have any finances to do it, English Heritage are an organisation with plenty of clout and very little money to back up their demands:rolleyes:
