the idea i have for accrington why the shoping centre start the saving club for accrington people put like 2 pound month and when come november /decmber next year to use stamp in any shop in accy town centre

there is already one at your local bank. it even pays interest. and you can spend the 'vouchers' anywhere

I was one of the ones hit by the hamper company going bust and we STILL haven't got any money back, now i just save up for Christmas

By budgeting during the year, and buying stuff early that will keep till Xmas. I also put as much of my loose change as I can spare in a jar every night. Just opened the jar and there is over 100 quid in there.

People moan about the cost of Christmas as if it is something that comes from out of the blue.:confused:

I budgeted last year by not sending any Christmas cards.

If people mentioned not receiving one, I tutted, and said that you really can't trust the postal system.

Sadly I don't think I dare try it two years running.

I did the same the year the wonderful Mrs. Westwood decided she could do better elsewhere, that year I received 234 or so cards, the next year I got about 70, now I'm down to one from the Post Office reminding me to send cards early & people that I pay a direct debit to.
I consider it a result, after all if I see you I will be sincere in my greetings, you are important to me, otherwise...
If we can't be bothered to meet, Don't fret I care as much about you as you do about me, it's not a problem.

I bought one of those metal tins from the pound shop that you could only open with a tin opener.

When I came home from a night out I used to put all the money I had left in the tin and also if when pay day came around and I still had a bit of money I used to put that in.

Started it in July and opened the tine on Thursday night as we were going Christmas shopping on Friday and I had saved £179!!

I were well chuffed and have already bought another one for next year.

I do save my change in a similar way Heth . I counted it up and was able to buy a laptop with it ! :eek::eek::eek:

I got a jar that counts the change I put in so that I know how much is in there ... lazy, I know, but what the hell, I'm old.:cool:

Also my Credit Union offers me a line of credit, which I politely decline ...

(As an aside, I remember that my grandad bought nowt on tick (OMG ... flashbacks):eek::D)

For Christmas, I buy for a few close friends, and that's it. Of course, I buy stockings for my animals so that they have something to destroy while I read them the Christmas story ... with emphasis on the animals in the story of course.:D

I have told every one that we buy for this year that they aint getting as much as what I usually spend on them as I simply cant afford it. They are fine with it as I think everyone is in the same boat.

Me and t'other half have put a limit on what we spend for each other aswell.

I have got charity Christmas cards this year so while my hand might be dropping off at the end of writing them all at least it is for a good cause!! :D

The original idea isn't that bad, but you would need some sort of credit union to administer and more importantly a collection of retailers who would actually work together to accept the stamps/voucher. Be a good idea for the Chamber Of Trade to discuss. Let e know when you find them to discuss it :rolleyes:

I stopped sending christmas cards in 1964.
I stopped trimming up in 2000.
I stopped buying presents when I stopped visiting shops about 3 years ago.
My close family get cash from me - (it is nice to have an excuse to give), and my winter fuel bonus covers it.
So I have no need to save for christmas.
I eat the same as I do all year -well.

It is nice to attend a family gathering but we have several during the year so christmas is nothing special. I am not a christian nor a pagan so the event has no spiritual significance either.

I don't shout 'humbug' because it is good to see people who think it's special, enjoy it.

I do the same thing David, I have different containers for different kinds, whiskey bottle for small change, and boxes for 20p 50p £1 and £2 coins, there is often over £100 when I count it up
