International Men's Day
Today is International Men's Day.
The idea being that it's the day for raising awareness of issues that are related to men - i.e. health issues, father's who can't see their children, etc. Particularly relevant as it's Movember which is all about raising awareness for Prostate Cancer. As you may know, I've been involved in International Women's Day for many years and I think it's fantastic that this day for men is growing in importance. Apparently it's been going since 1999 (I didn't know that) and it's recognised by 50 UN countries around the world. |
Re: International Men's Day
Presume it's over by now - never make a "thing" of the so-called "women's day" in march either -can't stand these kind of initiatives -sorry!
Am sure the prostates of the world will forgive me... |

Re: International Men's Day
The ability to sacrifice your needs on behalf of others is fundamental to manhood, as is honour. Manhood rites of passage the world over recognise the importance of sacrifice in the development. Men make sacrifices everyday in their place of work, in their role as husbands and fathers, for their families, for their friends, for their communities and for their nation. International Men's Day is an opportunity for people everywhere of goodwill to appreciate and celebrate the men in their lives and the contribution they make to society for the greater good of all.
IMD Home International Men's Day (IMD) is an annual international event celebrated on November 19. Inaugurated in 1999 in Trinidad and Tobago. International Men's Day - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia The only one I celebrate personally, is International Bollock's Day, on April 1st. |
Re: International Men's Day
Sorry, Gayle hunny, I'm going to have to disagree with you on this one, too.
Speaking as a man, I think I am perfectly qualified to say that, for the vast majority of my sex, this touchy-feely, inclusive drivel has absolutely no relevance or interest to men and the way they live. I am not going to wear a little ribbon, or spend fruitless hours exploring my feelings. Nor do I intend, ever, burning my jock-strap. Spare me the fluffy, pink, gushing feminism, Gayle, and please keep your patronising, busy-bodying nose out of my prostate, the condition of which is a matter between myself and my GP, thank-you. |
Re: International Men's Day
I celebrated it.
Went down the pub, saw a couple of pole dancers, had a few pints, watched a bit of footy on TV and had a few more pints and a bag of pork scratchings. It was an evening of high culture for IMD. |

next we will be having periods  can keep yer mamby pamby rubbish thanx im all for raising awareness to all illneses either male or female ones but despite magazines best efforts to get us men folk to get in touch with our emotions and excessive over the top mens products most of us have managed to fight off castration . Are there actually any days left where we arnt supposed to be aware of something, donate something or celibrate some religous event or other ? When i grow up i wantto be as grumpy as less :D |
What a lot of ungrateful blokes we have on here, we have been allowed a whole day to ourselves and you waste it.
I can tell you that I used the day to check out my testicles for any lumps or growths. Not much differrent to a none international day for men really, After all I'm a fella, we are always fiddling with our bollocks we don't need a special day for it. |

I married 2 'international' men.
The first was half welsh, the second, half italian. I don't recommend international men as husbands. |

Re: International Men's Day
Here's a problem facing men these days...have you noticed how they've started to put polythene masking wrappers on girlie mags, so you don't know if the birds are any good before you hand over your hard-earned?
Something should be done about it! |
