A wind of change?

This morning at 5:45 while Acrylic-Biff was taking me for his early morning constitutional, there came a point where the wind changed direction. Suddenly, it was as if the air were full of fine needles. And I looked at said pooch and he looked at me, both of us aware of the change and what it portended. Silently and resignedly we turned and headed back indoors.

Turning on the news (BBC1) there it was. A met office weather warning. We must expect snow, it said, for tomorrow and Tuesday. Here begineth the winter.

I didnt know there was a 5.45 in the morning, how long have we had one of those, and why did no one tell me, as I am always up at the "crack of dinner time" I should have noticed.

Re: A wind of change?

Groove was once watching a display by 1000's of starlings, like a swarm of locusts above Bullough Park. A passing elderly gentleman informed Groove that this was a sign that colder weather was on its way.....sure enough, the next morning Groove was met with a bitter arctic blast whilst in the same location. Groove wonders if anyone else has any unofficial pointers to signify the coming of winter?

Re: A wind of change?

Well, if it's November thru Febuary, it's generally cold.
That help?

groove 05-12-2011 09:58

Re: A wind of change?

Well, considering that until today November has been unusually mild and it often snows in March, Groove thinks your November to February notion is'nt very accurate. Groove thinks the starlings are far better an indicator of cold than the date.

Well you would.

Well 29.11.2010 there was snow on the ground in Accy, I remember it well as it was baby wallop's 1st birthday. At the end of the day anytime soon it'll snow, it shouldn't be a surprise seeing as we ain't living in Florida.

Re: A wind of change?

I think so to Groove, think generally when Scotland's had 1st dibs (as usual) then we tend to get it shortly after.

Maybe you could head out to the reserve and check in with the local medicine man;) :D But I do believe that the local wildlife "know" what the weather will be like. The geese are still hangin' around Kingston especially in the fields where corn was grown ... geese love corn ... Whatever, they are still here, hissing and shltting all over the place. Thousands of them ... and hunting season is over:mad:

Meanwhile, we are having Accy weather ... drizzle and 8c.

As for the geese, i think they stay her in winter as its moderately warmer than the north of Canada.
