I agree it's very frustrating;I am in the same position as Pixie;I don't sell games but do sell dvds and we have the same argument time and time again....Child brings "Child's Play 3" to the counter clutching a tenner.My staff then say "have you got an adult with you?That is an 18 cert and I would lose my job if I sell it to you." Mum then appears "Oh it's fine,he's seen worse than that!" You then explain to the parent ;who is now at the front of a growing queue that you cannot physically sell the dvd to her charming offspring and she then hands over the money and gives the child the dvd in the bag!!!!

My staff face immediate dismissal and a £3000 fine if they sell an underage child a certified age dvd;and the Trading Standards Office spend their time sending underage kids into our stores trying to catch us out!:mad:

Don't you wish that you could report the parents sometimes? Its SO frustrating!

The latest bane of my life is Playboy Mansion. Children as young as EIGHT have talked their parents into buying this. Its a BBFC rated 18, which puts it on the same level as an 18 rated film. Its animated pornography at the end of the day (which is pretty sad).
Although I agree with the industry needing to regulate more, I think that restrictions on games should be a legal rather than a voluntary thing. I also think that anyone trying to buy it for someone who is underage should face the same penalties as someone trying to buy cigs and booze for kids. Parents (in general) are quite happy to buy the latest bloodbath for their kids, but its the shops that get blamed when Trevor MacDonald comes to call.:rolleyes:

Oh - watch out for the next Daily Mail campaign on a game called called "Narc". It involves a game where you take drugs such as crack cocaine and heroin to see what effect it has on your character. And no, I'm not joking.

The whole area surrounding Parental Guidance cd's is just as bad;we are told to use our discretion but the Parental Guidance sticker on a product has no legality behind it;you are relying on the customer's parent[who may not be there at the time of purchase...] to be aware that the cd contains swearing;and in some cases very little else!
It's an absolute minefield and in many cases my staff err on the side of being over-cautious because they don't want the fall out when some 7 year old 's dad brings his Green Day album back!

We just treat even the PEGI ratings as "law". If you don't look old enough to have the game, you don't get it. Most children have, or can get a Citizenship card to prove how old they are, so we see it as they have very little excuse for not having proof of age these days.
And if its a dimwitted parent that is buying the game for their devious little darlings we just make it very clear to the parent what the game involves. At least we have done all we can do on our part.

my kids will never get thir hands on any kind of laser weapon or rocket launcher so i dont think i have to worry too much about them miss using them like in the game , they also will not be blowing cars up without my permision first lol

in the game they play against me and in some weird way their mission is to kill daddy and mine is to kill them

i dont think ( well i hope) this will get carried out into the real world


like somone else mentioned tom and jerry went around smashing each others skulls in with frying pans and baseball bats amongst other things and i grew up on that stuff but have yet to run round my house destroying the furniture while trying to smash some sods face in with the nearest household appliance

games , tv and other things are just excuses for bad parenting its about time peopel took responsibility for their kids actions and stopped blaming everything but them selves

yes some games are bad and violent to extreems but if a child even manages to get one of these games and plays it then goes and hits someone with a baseball bat is it the games fault or the parents fault for not teaching their children that doing such an action is not right

lets ban the following to ensure our kids grow up well

magig roundabout - references to drugs and their effects
tom and jerry - violent behaviour
captain pugwash - smutty charecter names
pingu - gets drunk and urinates on the floor ( yes its true and was shown to children)

probably lots more ime too tired to think of more right now
