Keep your peanut!
It was revealed at the weekend that the Government of India has no desire to recieve the £280 million we give them each year in development aid. They regard the payments as 'a peanut'.
Last year they were on the verge of telling Britain where we could shove our peanut, until British Civil Servants intervened to beg the Indian Government to change its mind. It would be, they argued, an embarassment for Ministers who had expended political capital in the effort to persuade their electorate that the payments were necessary. Nevertheless, despite the fact that India spends tens of Billions of pounds per year on defence and hundreds of millions of pounds on its own space programme. And despite the fact that the Indian government decided to choose a French supplier for a £13 billion air defence contract. and despite India's breakneck industrialisation. The international Development Secretary, Andrew Mitchell has approved a further aid budget for India of £1.1 Billion over the next four years. What part of 'No, thank you!' does Andrew Mitchell not understand? |

When everything is added up and subtracted and shoved in bottom drawers. For every £1 that the government has managed to save as a result of the cost cutting, the Bank of England has given away £32.50 to the banks in Quantitative Easing. It is not just other countries that the loss of income is funding. |
Re: Keep your peanut!
Stuff 'em.
The ungrateful gits. Give it to those more in need. Like those poor little Arabs in Saudi Arabia. Did Britain really need to give millions to*the wealthy state of Singapore? - Telegraph 'Britain also gave £380,000 in aid to the enormously wealthy oil sheikhdom of Saudi Arabia.' |

I'm sure I put a link on last year from an Indian Newspaper saying that they find aid from us to be embarassing.
They didn't want it, it was bad for their long term economy. I personally find that they had this Government begging that they, (India), take it to save their, our (Government's), face, absolutely intolerable. |

We've already got one desperate plucker on this forum. I'm 95% sure of that. ;) |
Re: Keep your peanut!
What was the original reason for giving this amount of money to other countries in the first place? Why has no one questioned the staggering amount of money we are giving away for little or no benefit.
We have old people in hospital who get their meals placed at the bottom of the bed and have gone hungry, as no one has time to feed those who require assistance. Just imagine all the things that could be changed by the application of all the foreign aid into this country |

this topic has come up before infact it came up when cameron declared that not only will the UK continue to give aid to other countries especially those who dont need it but the amounts given will increase over the next few years. so here our government is not only giving money away saved by inflicting hardship on the country but also borr0wing money so they can continue giving it away in abundance to other countries. Even if a country was in need of a hand out our government has no buissness handing over money while things here are in such a mess.Considering how this country lets any scroat come here and bleed teh system i would say we are doing enough for teh world already without sending even more money abroad  |
